Exactly what the title says! If you went through a Sonic level using your own running speed and usual abilities, what would be the best time on your clock?
It can be any level from any of the Sonic games...even Emerald hunting stages!
Stages you're familiar with would be a good place to start.
For me, I'd probably get 30 seconds on Green Hill Zone Act 2 of StH. I'm fast at running [not as fast as Sonic of course], and I know the level very well. :P
-
There is no way a human get 30 seconds on GH. Not likely.
But damn. It would be so much fun to go through a Sonic stage in real life. I would suck at it but who cares, I'd have a ball.
Although there are a bunch of stages that are physically impossible for a human. You mentioned emerald hunting stages. Heh. Digging would be interesting, but actually completing Pumpkin Hill would be... challenging.
-
I would fail doing Lost World (Sonic) because I would hit that door to the second area so many times that I'd knock myself out.
-
First person to survive Scrap Brain Zone wins the internet.
I don't think humans were even meant to survive Sonic levels.
-
You would fail GH2 because your spine would snap when you went through the chute.
I wish I had time to make an amusing picture illustrating my point.
I'd say it would probably take me a cool 10 seconds to complete Knuckles' Hidden Palace...I mean it's basically a straight run.
Which brings up the question: how fast can you run a mile? I don't know myself, but I figure others care and so will.
-
Lost World, that would be a kickass stage since you get to swim unlike Sonic and press switches underwater. Pretty dangerous... and cool. You also get to play with the spotlights in the dark room. Watch your step.
btw I'd like to do City Escape on a bike.
What else... Flying Battery would be super intense if you did it irl. But I bet I can do act 2 in under 10 minutes at least.
Scrap Brain huh... at least it's physically doable huh?
-
I have a dreadfully low stamina, so I'd probably take a minute or so in Green Hill 1.
-
Heh, guess I was just havin' thoughts up in the clouds... maybe around 2 minutes or something, I think I forget how long the stage really is. >_<
Scrap Brain would be pretty interesting...
-
23 second GHZ1 >_>
But seriously, Crazy Gadget IRL would be awesome, assuming you could light dash through that one gap and you can breath. Cosmic Wall would be sort of fun too.
-
I was gonna mention Crazy Gadget. Wouldn't the gravity switches KO you though? How will you be able to survive the drop while upside down? Not to mention more areas where homing attack is required.
And to answer genus's question. The world record for running a mile is about 3 minutes 45 seconds. But it would probably take me more than that.
-
I survived Scrap Brain Zone!
Now hand over the internet Waxwings.
And running through an actual Sonic Stage would be SWEET!!!!!
-
Although my body would not sink as Sonic's, Tidal Tempest could be possible in a couple of minutes.
Stardust Speedway? No way. I'm afraid of great heights, and well, I can't roll up into a ball to pass those tubes at the end of Zone 2. :(
Collision Chaos is the same...
But maybe I could do a Quartz Quadrant 1 run in... 5-10 minutes?
-
Twinkle Park would be very funny. :D
Probably around 5 mins.
-
I'd love going on a hoverboard, zipping through Splash Canyon. It'd be like a water park... sorta.
I'd run through Sand Oasis in about 4 min if it werent for the building part.
I'm pretty fast, but I'm no Sonic... or Shadow for that matter.
I'd just LOVE running through just about any Sonic stage a human could actually finish!
That being said, guess that rules out Wave Ocean. :(
-
Wave Ocean would be good if the whale isn't there.
I was thinking about Ice Cap SA1 if you had snowboard or skis in tow. But then in the last part there is the big drop... oh damn. Imagine going through that stage and forgetting about the last drop until the last second.
In fact more than half of us in more than half of these stages we would probably just end up killing ourselves. Whether it be GH2's chute like genus said or something else.
Though 2D levels are confusing considerations in general since you have to ask - can you walk /around/ things or do you have to climb each platform? There would be a lot more than running in a lot of these stages 2D or 3D.
A lot of sections would require ladders where there weren't before. (as well as all enemies being removed)
Also I was considering Westopolis, but I guess that would end after the first freefall.
-
I don't just enjoy running when I'm playing Sonic games... so here are some estimates.
Green Hill: 30-45 seconds.
Emerald Coast: About 3:30:00-4:00:00 (the vertical slopes would slow me down a bit)
Final Rush: I'd be dead within a minute.
Seaside Hill: 6:00:00 (I'd have to swim to skip the final huge loop.)
Final Egg: I'd get somewhere around 4:00:00-5:00:00. But what about the light dash section at the end? I can picture it now...
*sonic99189 does repeated spins to imitate Sonic's spin dash*
*sonic99189 comes out of the spin and says "Ready..."*
*sonic99189 says "Go!" and thrusts forward, putting his hands behind him in the classic sonic running pose*
*a distant wail is heard as sonic99189 falls to his death*
Yeah.
And would you believe this is what I think of when I'm bored?
-
Final Rush, that's hilarious.
Let's think of more stages which would kill us immediately.
-
Shadow stages that are instant death, assuming we start at the same spot Shadow does:
Final Haunt, Central City, Westopolis (though a bit delayed due to the long fall), Death Ruins (if not from the landing, then from the fatal tumble down the incline to the loop), Sky Troops, Cryptic Castle, Space Gadget, Cosmic Fall
-
Other instant-kill stages/impossible feats:
- Aquatic Base
- Windy Valley (XD)
- Evil Foundry
- Night Palace
- Final Fortress
- Mystic Mansion (hello, if you were to make it so far, how exactly do you pass the fan, much less jump over lasers w/ a rail bobsled)
Think someone could make it through Skeleton Dome? (W/o enemies, maybe.)
-
Labyrinth Zone.
-
Instant death in Evil Foundry what. You could do everything in that stage. Those gaps are short enough to jump over and you just have to be quick with the fans and spikes.
Good luck to anyone trying to do Weapon's Bed mission 5. Or Biolizard XD
-
I dont understand this topic =S
-
Not surprising.
-
Not surprising.
Why do you say that?
-
Not telling why since it'll spark an unnecessary argument.
-
Let's say there are no enemies for any of these stages. I take it this is a running/speed test not combat/survival and the enemies make most if not all levels extremely dangerous by default.
And as for Mystic Mansion I would say remove the lasers on the cart ride. Either that or you're able to make it jump as well. (probably a level on the thing that does that...)
-
Someone should make a hack of the 2D Sonic games that puts a human in there...
BUT PLEASE NOT MARIO!!!
And I want to try SH out like that. Lets see...
/me starts glowing yellow...
/me Chaos Controls onto the ARK
/me starts glowing green...
/me is blown into a trillion pieces!!!
/me comes back to Earth, no longer glowing yellow.
Done!
-
Someone should make a hack of the 2D Sonic games that puts a human in there...
That would be awesome, should the human be one of those generic anime sprites? Or should it look like someone everybody knows about? *shifty eyes*
-
I have a great idea for an instant death stage. Mad Matrix. With all of the spinning(and how exactly would you seem to be able to go to the terminals?) It'd probably seem impossible. As for the main subject, I'd love to go on a hoverboard and Ride through Sega Carnival and Dark Desert. I'd possibly do any course from that game, as long as I get a hoverboard.
-
Well Mad Matrix takes place in cyberspace. Your body is weightless during the circuit ride things right?... and you would probably be able to go through them even as a human.
-
It'd be more fun to just balance on them like a real man \m/
-
I'D SPEND YEARS IN THE CHAO GARDEN
-
Those Chao of yours won't last very long if you do. ;D
Have anybody consider about being able to go through a loop?

Just run to it until your like half way up, jump to the other side, then run down.

Or alternativly, just step through it like common sense would dictate

Thats boring, make it fun =)

How about strappin' on some roller skates to speed through the whole loop?
Or skateboards, I've seen it done on skateboards...

Anime sprite! That's what it's all about, isn't it?
-
Sonic 1 hack with Wonder Boy and Alex Kidd plzkthx.
-
I agree. It'd be fun to kill Alex Kidd. He was almost gonna be Sega's mascot until sonic came(for those of you who don't know this by now).
-
If Alex Kidd came back... I had a vision of sweet city stages and the works, crushing cars with the pogo stick, and boss battles would involve a super dramatized rock scissors paper. I wish.
Just run to it until your like half way up, jump to the other side, then run down.

Such as Mario? (http://captaininvincible.deviantart.com/art/3K-rq-Mario-in-Emerald-Hill-17994672) :P

You don't even need to go up the loop. Look at the 3D games. You can jump from the start up of one end to the end of the other

*Randomly goes into General Sonic after being away since summer and clicks a few threads, including this one.)
Hey, I remember thinking about this before. (And does anyone remember teh real life time attack????////)
*mentally goes through Emerald Coast*
Commentary:
I don't know how horizontal springs would work, but there's a vertical one near the spinny spiky balls. ... Um... just hope that those ramps can get me across the gap. (I would say that I can just swim around any obstacle, but there isn't actually any water in act 1, except above the sandy shore.) ... Okay, I think the first vertical slope ends it. Running up it is plain impossible. I don't think the seam is enough to make climbing around worth trying. And I'm pretty sure the slope is more than 5 feet wide. (Probably 7-10, from memory. If it was narrow enough, climbing between the side walls should be possible. Unless that kind of rock surface is slippery, being only texture-mapped (okay, I'm getting a little ridiculous about accuracy in realism here).) ... Dash plates would be fun. I'd probably fall and break the back of my head open if I tried to use one. Maybe crouching while wearing rollerblades? Or just step over/around them. ... Another vertical slope, another dead-end (after the super looop). If a long jump would be possible (to take the shortcut used in speedruns), the water before it would make it impossible. Er, nevermind. The water is "real" in EC2, isn't it? ... If the springs or jump panels work, it should be smooth running to the capsule.

That'd look a little funny, wouldn't it? I mean, Shadow's like half our height, not to mention that he curls up a lot tighter. And aren't some of those tunnels a little narrow? Plus, the big thing is spinning (which ieatatsonic mentioned). You'd need a 3rd-person view to get anywhere while spinning.
-
I am physically unable to do any stages, EVA (Thank you fast food, chips and soda *middle finger*)
Casinopolis might be fun, but as long as I don't have to go into the pinball games.
Spring Stadium would be awesome, until the concussion I'd get after landing on my head on my way down.
Marble is a deathtrap.
Radiant Emerald lol.
Emerald Coast would be fun, until the loops. The I'd pull off the loop trick Judgement said.
-
Ah, that's right! Sonic R has hands down the best areas for irl runs! I didn't even consider them.
They are all very safe, have many routes, and would be a lot of fun! Because they aren't so dangerous they are the most practical for competition. (heh) And they are also good for spectating, as well as swimming, a skate park or just a place to sit and eat ice cream.

I figure you don't have to curl up or roll to do that part.
But as for dash plates and springs - I figured they are removed and you have to navigate the stage without them. Or, springs may be replaced with ladders wherever they may be needed to make the stage physically passable for a human.
Just like enemies... but actually you can keep enemies. Because it's only springs and dash plates that would instantly kill you or are physically unviable. Whereas enemies are just extremely dangerous. But really, in many cases, a human should be able to avoid them. Especially in classic stages because you are never forced to defeat enemies to proceed. Shadow the Hedgehog stages are death traps and Sonic06 crabs would be a slaughter.
But still, no enemies... besides making too many levels impossible, they not really in the intended spirit of the topic if you ask me. A "how fast can you run through Green Hill" topic not a "oh my god, those robot bees are shooting at me everywhere I go and more robots are coming out from inside the walls, i'm bleeding and if I survive I'm scarred for life"
But now that I mention it, we can do a seperate idea for doing levels with enemies. However you will be armed with weapons instead of just yourself. (otherwise you can't kill them) You can have like a pistol or something. We can have infinite ammo.. but better yet, ammo management can be another factor. You may have to carry your own ammo which can slow you down in the non-combat sections of the stage. A common strategy may be to drop all your gear at the final stretch. That just cracks me up.

Reactive Factory has a gap in the path. Very unsafe (especially when it's snowing).
And about the weapon thing, you're gonna turn Sonic into a FPS Platformer game? (Like Metroid Prime)
-
Already done. Shadow took care of that, so that's probably the only FPS sonic game we'll get.
-
>.<
Well either way, it's not an FPS platformer... it's real life!
It would not be like any game... whether it be Metroid Prime or Shadow the Hedgehog.
(unless you're doing a Shadow stage, in which case it IS technically like Shadow the Hedgehog)
-
Well I got through green hill yesterday in 25.92 seconds(3/1/08), but If it was me, I couldn't even finish it cause i'm not gonna fall like 500 feet near the end to get through a level myself!!!!! I would go down the slides but not the boost pad that launches me up high though :p
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
NECRO!!!!
RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!
Really, Speeder, this needs to stop.
-
Sorry...I cant help myself
I'll stop :)
-
Ok? For me it is the X-Zone in Sonic Advance in my 64-bit graphics I have knives, a paintball gun to use against Eggman ( ), I can punch down a flat wall made of 1" board of balsa. I can take electronics apart and cannot put theme back together (Eggman's robots, eggman's carrier) I would get through in 15 minutes with no rings
-
Or alternativly, just step through it like common sense would dictate
cheater!

LOL!
Or how about instead of jumping put yourself in a big ball and roll it around the loop like Sonic just to be safe! Make sure the ball is cushioned so if it fails you don't die a premature death
-
Anyone think of how you would get through a boss fight. Think of that and what would your protection be (excluding barriers and invicibility). Rings, rubies, coins, donuts, ice cream? For me getting through a boss starting with Checker Wrecker Ball from Green Hill I hide in the corner and throw rocks, knives, shoot paintball guns, and throwing grenades if I have any. (Halo fan). My protection item is donuts.
-
nuke them bosses :D

If you're hiding in the corner you wouldn't need protection, though donuts would make a good snack.
-
I can't, off the top of my head, think of a single sonic level I'd feel safe walking through. All require some sort of ridiculous stunt (even GH1, loop-de-loop says hi!). Wild Canyon is pretty safe I suppose, though I don't fancy being blown by that wind current. Crazy Gadget would be pretty radical. If they created a VR sonic game where it's like you're in the game, but you don't get any of the negative side-effects that the game in real life would give you, such as death, then levels like Crazy Gadget, Final Rush, in fact, any Sonic level, would be amazing. Seriously. Just imagine.
-
This is the way you would get through boss "fights", with donuts as protetion items. A small fanfiction. Actually I think you couldn't get through most of the levels, and the Silver Sonic fight is way too risky, especially for the weakly me. So it's just some abstract funny things.
Emerald Hill Zone
Eggman: "I'll kill you, Soni... WAIT! Where the heck is Sonic? And who are you?"
Me: "A man who decided to do Sonic stages in real life. There is no Sonic there."
Eggman: "DAMMIT!"
Me: "I understand."
Eggman: "Why the heck do you do it anyway?!"
Me: "I want to win the Internet the second time"
Eggman: "You're crazy."
Me: "Yes. Want a donut?"
Eggman: "Sure."
Me: "I'll do level select just in case if a stage will be some sort of an instant-death for a human."
Eggman: "0-o"
Me: "By the way, in the game your drill car is pathetic. You should change your plans in case you actually want to kill poor sonic."
Eggman: "DAMMIT!"
Chemical Plant Zone
Eggman: "Soni..., ah, sorry, hello again."
Me: "Put something in there so that Sonic can't immediately hit you WHILE your tube gets the chemical.
Eggman: "DAMMIT!"
Me: "Oh, I just wanted to help you.
Eggman: "Can't stand smarta$$es."
Me: "Sorry."
Eggman: "That's me, who should say sorry. Your tips are actually helpful."
Me: "Want a cookie?"
Eggman: "Yep."
Me: "OK".
Aquatic Ruins Zone
Eggman: "Sonic! Sonic the hedgehog, goddammit! Come here now!
Me: "As he isn't currently here, may I suggest you to edit it so that the totem poles are already all the way up instead of rising up as Sonic arrives.
Eggman: "Why so?"
Me: "Cause otherwise Sonic immediately gets on top of a pole and then just spindashes into you for a cheap hit. I know it casue that's the way I pass this stage when I play it in-game.
Eggman: "Ouch, that really sucks. Thank you!"
Me: "Want another donut?"
Eggman: "No way, bastard! I'm already dangerously close to being too large for several of my contraptions, and building another one can be VERY costly!"
Me: "Oops. Sorry."
Casino Night Zone
Eggman: "It's a long and boring wait!"
Me: "I understand."
Eggman: "And what do you suggest this time, Mr. SmartiePants?"
Me: "Pretty much nothing, actually. Only you might want to change the round corners to normal square corners. So that you can't cheap your way out with a small spindash. It's still possible to use flippers, but it would be hard enough to not to matter THAT much."
Eggman: "OK, then!"
Me: "Want another donut?"
Eggman: "DAMMIT!"
Hill Top Zone
Eggman: "Soni, ah that's you again. And what will you annoyingly nitpick this time?"
Me: "Everything. This is so flawed from the beginning, that unless you figure out a way to mdify it so that you can't be hit at the moment you come out of lava, you may just as well ditch the entire idea."
Eggman: "Is it so bad?"
Me: "Easiest boss fight in the history of Sonic games!"
Eggman: "But if he tries to do the bounce, won't he fall into lava?"
Me: "There're RINGS."
Eggman: "DAMMIT."
Mystic Cave Zone
Eggman: "And I at first thought you are Sonic's follower. Your little touches are amazing."
Me: "And this time, either make your contraption more dangerous to hit, or just go faster. I really can't think of anything else to add. It's also possible to change it into something different."
Eggman: "You're very crazy for attempting this. I really didn't think it's possible to go this far. I'll have to change the level traps as well."
Me: "Whatever."
Oil Ocean Zone
Eggman: "You like it?"
Me: "If you wouldn't resurface to check out the damage, then yeah. And also block the oil, otherwise Sonic can hide in there and you won't even know. Make a radar or something."
Eggman: "Wow, that actually... that actually works!"
Me: "Want another donut?"
Eggman: "Not really, or I probably won't fit in my next invention."
Me: "Err, whoops."
Metropolis Zone
Eggman: "One of my best anti-Sonic contraptions."
Me: "Um, yeah, especially if you don't do your opening up attacks, and just start lasering everything before the sphere shield gets blown. It's nearly impossible that way."
Eggman: "At least there's nothing to change in the contraption itself."
Me: "Maybe, remove the now unnecessary opening up option, to not to make bloated software for your gagdet."
Eggman: "DAMMIT! Sorry, I just hate rebuilding something over and over."
Me: "Want another donut?"
Eggman: "Oh, COME ON! It's already a snug fit and I really want to have something for this place!"
Me: "You know, you could save it up for later, when Sonic gets defeated. You can be as fat as you want then."
Eggman: "Thank you."
Sky Chase Zone
Me: "Eggman, Eggman, where are you, oh crap, this is a no boss zone, dammit!"
Wing Fortress Zone
Eggman: "Got you! Pretty impossible to get outta there, no?"
Me: "Sonic can. Your laser barries are generated by the laser at the top's programs, and when that's broken, the barriers will disperse. Want to be real cheap? Disconnect the programs. So that when you defeat the laser at the top, the barriers will never vanish.
Eggman: "And how will I get around that?"
Me: "Break floors, build ladders."
Eggman: "Sorry, this is just impractical."
Me: "Whatever, this is still pretty tough when you actually play the game. And if you do a real-life run, it's impossible. GET ME OUTTA HERE!"
Eggman: "Oops, sorry. *disables barries* Here you go."
Me: "Could you take me to Death Egg Zone? It's the last zone before I win the internet the second time!"
Eggman: "Sorry, forgot about that. Let's go on!"
Death Egg Zone
Silver Sonic: YOU WILL DIE!
Eggman: Uh-oh, sorry, I kinda forgot about that. I don't think I will be able to turn it off fast enough.
Me: *waits for Silver Sonic charging a spindash*
Eggman: "What the hell are you waiting for?!"
Me: *whistling a merry tune, and going out of the plane , hanging onto the lader, just as Silver Sonic dashes.*
Silver Sonic: *dashes out of plane, falls to his death*
Me: *goes back in* "I've expected it. That was pretty stupid of him, don't you think?"
Eggman: "DAMMIT! That was my only prototype for Metal Sonic."
Me: "Sorry. I've had to get through, you know. And I have two important tips for your final huge Eggman boss fight".
Eggman: "Sorry. OK, what do you suggest?"
Me: "Make it taller and harder to hit, and don't bend over when you land. That's it".
Eggman: "Thanks".
Me: "Want another donut? Just kidding, I don't have em anymore. I'll have to go back, I quit." *vanishes by quitting the game*
Eggman: "Whoever he was, he sure helped me!"
Emerald Hill Zone
Sonic: "What the hell is this? There should have been a drill tank...."
Eggman: "I've changed my ways".
Sonic: "DAMMIT!"

Usually, although even if you had bumped this, you had something to say so it'd be fine. What's not cool is bumping 4 year old topics with a pointless one-liner.

Night Palace Mission 1 would be a good stage to run through, but you could die easily without air on the carpet ride. Night Palace Mission 2 is very easy for a human to do but how would you try to beat the wind genie if he fly's faster then you can even run.

In a way, that fanfic is funny. I would tell Eggman to make clones of himself so in Emerald Hill he has the Drill Car and the Checkerwrecker Ball are going at the same time. Sonic or Tails or both have to Jump on the Car and dodge the wrecker ball at the same time. On Chemical Plant he should have Marble's Boss and CP's boss at the same time. SY and AR together, Starlight's Boss and Metropolis's boss together. Or Death Egg to be an actually
Another couple of stages I'd try would be Hydrocity Act 2 (AFTER THE WALL) Sliding down those chutes would be Fun! Also I would want to do and I would want to do Radical Highway. (Why? IT IS RADICAL DUDE)
I am sorry for necromancy, but I had to do so, D.D. Necromancer RETURN TO THE HAND!
EDIT: Or Death Egg to be an actual stage, before the giant Eggman Bot.

That was pretty funny, though.

That won't work cuz I play Lava golem and sacrafice D.D. necromancer. I also play gravity bind and dark room of nightmare, along with destruction ring and barrel behind the door. Pwnage.
