Stefan mentioned the idea perhaps satirically, and I think it would be pretty cool SO I AM GOING TO MAKE SOME EMERALD CHALLENGESup as I go along.
Video proof isn't required, screenshot proof will be nice where feasible, Im mostly going on the Honour system here because I have enough faith in you guys~
Note I am not making emerald images, NO SIR, I have something FAR BETTER IN STORE.
Completing challenges will earn you Points of Awesome(TM) and when you have certain amounts you will be given AN EMBLEM OMG.
So anyway, Chaos Emeralds and Green first. And shut up because the Chaos ones are always piss easy.
SA2B Green Chaos Emerald Challenge
- Complete Metal Harbour Mission 1 as Sonic in under 1 minute and 40 seconds.
SA2B Yellow Chaos Emerald Challenge
- In any of Shadow's levels, collect 200 rings and finish the stage on Mission 1. Also as Shadow.
SA2B Pink Chaos Emerald Challenge
- Begin a new save file and begin the Dark Story. Complete Iron Gate Mission 1 as Eggman without taking a hit.
SA2B Blue Chaos Emerald Challenge
- In Eternal Engine Mission 1, destroy 11 or more Artificial Chaos enemies, and then complete the level, as Tails, in his mech.
SA2B White Chaos Emerald Challenge
- Complete Final Chase Mission 1, as Shadow. You may touch no more than 4 rails throughout the whole level. If you die and reload from a checkpoint, any rails you touched in between the checkpoint and the death are removed from your tally.
SA2B Red Chaos Emerald Challenge
- In Weapons Bed Mission 1, as Eggman, destroy 70 lock-on targets in under 60 seconds as tracked by the in-game timer.
SA2B Sky Blue Chaos Emerald Challenge
- In Egg Quarters Mission 1, as Rouge, collect all 3 keys without ever being detected by the Egg Beetle Robot Thing. If you are detected at any time you must begin the stage over.
SA2B Golden Chaos Emerald Challenge
- In Metal Harbour Mission 4, as Sonic, collect enough rings to earn a Perfect at the end of the level, and then finish the stage within the time limit.
SA2B Green Super Emerald Challenge
- Complete Radical Highway Mission 1 as Shadow in under 2 minutes.
SA2B Yellow Super Emerald Challenge
- In any of Sonic's levels, collect 400 rings and finish the stage on Mission 1. Also as Sonic.
SA2B Pink Super Emerald Challenge
- Defeat the Biolizard as Shadow without taking a hit during the encounter. You may not repeatedly homing attack his body to reach his life support system faster.
SA2B Blue Super Emerald Challenge
- In Cannons Core Mission 1, Knuckles section, collect all of the rings in his section and then complete it. As Knuckles. You may not have the Air Necklace upgrade for this challenge.
SA2B White Super Emerald Challenge
- Complete Wild Canyon Mission 5, as Knuckles. Once you leave the ground of the starting platform, you may not allow Knuckles to stand on a horizontal surface, with the exception of a single pillar in the wind tunnel room, for the entire duration of the level. Choose wisely!
SA2B Red Super Emerald Challenge
- In Green Forest Mission 1, as Sonic, complete the level while scoring no more than 10 points, time bonus excluded. You may not die at any point during your run.
SA2B Sky Blue Super Emerald Challenge
- Clear Route 101 Mission 5 as Tails. You may not use a Boost at any time, nor touch another vehicle.

are they going to get harder? hell, I can get all 154 rings on mission 4 in 1:28, which is 12 seconds faster than the pure time target you are asking for. Plus I could probably take it below 1:25 if there was a reason to!

I looked back at my A-less run to see if it would have met the requirements if it had been a new game (which it obviously wasn't), but it turns out residual damage lock-ons were definitely helpful in a few places, so I decided not to stretch it.
Instead I made this (http://soniccenter.org/sm/ig_newgame.avi). Still no A button, in the spirit of the last one, still A rank, and this time I included the cutscenes in all their ridiculous glory. Note that you can also hear how prevalent the disc scratches are getting.

Both done. White took forever (partly because of the rail just before the last checkpoint has a spring at the end you need to hit which took me a while to figure out how to avoid touching the rail at that spot), but Blue was a piece of cake.

This is potentially another case of "you'll see some proof once my speedrun happens", though I might not go too all out, at least for eternal engine 1. Did it first try though.
fc1 completed first try, and I've got an idea you only need to hit 3 rails to complete the level.

- Dark story - I had to delete my some data on my memory card because I didn't have 3 blocks left and couldn't find my other card. <_<

- FC1 is 3 rails doable, as others have mentioned.

In Eternal Engine, I blasted 12. For Final Chase, I used 4 rails, most noteably skipping the one right after the third checkpoint, which took a bunch of tries. I could probably skip that last rail with a bit of practice [since it's probably easier to skip than the c3 rail], but I think this is good.

(and it would have been ringless too if not for one spring--I recorded another run that was ringless, but from what I've gathered I ended up touching the last rail for all of one frame before the spring, so I didn't count it as upload-worthy)
Also 14 in EE (http://soniccenter.org/sm/ee_14chaos.avi) and it could have been 15 if not for the fact that I really didn't care how stylish or coherent the second half ended up...just be thankful I didn't choose to go the outside route on the last tower and make it hard to tell what I was shooting (as there are only 10 before the tower).

Well I got 1:19:75 on metal harbour, which just happened to be a nice run and got me a new personal record.
I got 237 rings on White jungle so that was easy enough.
11 Artificial chaos pwned. Another easy challenge.
Well yeah, i had trouble with the eggman one because i thought i had the hover and i fell to my doom at the elevator. But I did it in the end.
3 rails on FC. Kinda challenging for me.

Is it supposed to count only numbered lock-ons, or any destructible items? Does it include ring boxes?
What about enemy bullets?
Would I be allowed to use mission 4 and stand still for a minute and 45 at the start (so as to use the big clock for something), or does it have to be the first 60 seconds of a given life?

After a painstaking frame-by-frame analysis of what was locked onto and what was destroyed when, you can now see the progression of a 76 in Weapons Bed (http://soniccenter.org/sm/wb_76hit.avi).
I played on an unsaved new story so that I didn't have the Laser Blaster and therefore wouldn't get residual shots, to help ensure that I got a chance to lock on to everything (or close enough). There are seven inactive enemies behind the dynamite doors, and dynamite is residual whether you have Laser Blaster or not, so I only managed to lock onto three of those. The third one certainly wasn't destroyed by the actual lock-on shot, as that shot was fired just 2 frames earlier; I don't have sufficient information to tell if the other two were destroyed by lock-ons or by the dynamite explosion. But then again, it shouldn't really matter: the Hornet-6 is destroyed before 6 of the shots aimed at it have a chance to connect too, and obviously those are all supposed to count.

I've been around the stage enough to have a pretty good idea of the beetle robots' detection range, but by all indications the approach at 39 (http://soniccenter.org/sm/images/closecall.png) should have set it off and I don't know how I managed to get past it. What I do know is that approaches like that tend to just have it shoot you immediately, without so much as a warning timer. Maybe I hit the border between immediate shot and warning shot. Maybe the fact that it was just starting to climb did something to its line of sight. Who knows. Whatever the case, it's a hell of a watch.
And even with that I can't convey the full sense of how it was made. My neighborhood had a long power failure today, and when it finally came back I think the infusion of power did something bad to the CRT on my TV. In any case, the screen I had to watch was dimmer than I'm used to, and on top of that, the picture was constantly bobbing up and down. You ought to try playing like that some time...except it's not worth deliberately breaking your TV to do so.
Oh yeah, gold challenge. I really don't want to play Metal Harbor again, especially not with a wobbly screen, but fortunately this challenge needs only evidence that's left on the level select screen. So here, have this.

...too bad I haven't recorded either CE or FR for rings yet. At least I still have this relic of the FR completion.
And fortunately I have a 32-emblem file that I used purely for ripping the "story preview" cutscenes, so that put me right at CC with a no-Air-Necklace file. There were a couple of upgrades I needed, so I got those, then I knocked out pink and blue in succession, in one video file (http://soniccenter.org/sm/laststory.avi) (70MB, 19 minutes long). To go with blue, I decided not just to get all rings with Knuckles, but with the other characters too. It turns out that the lightning shield (and Sonic's ring chain) requires Rouge's Mystic Melody, but not Eggman's...of course, if you don't have Eggman's, you're trapped in the tunnel! The only ways to get out are to restart the whole stage (which makes it for naught) or to die, and there's only one way to die in the tunnel. So of course that's shown.
As far as Knuckles, the one that actually counts, I ended up limiting myself to 2 air bubbles. 1 and probably even 0 are possible, but they would require a lot more splitting up of excursions into the Kool-Aid. As far as the end, you're probably well aware that death leaves 2.9 seconds for things to happen, and the screen starts fading here after 2.6. Of course on DC I have 11 fewer rings to find, including the Big ring, but if they were there they'd both be quite easy to get from this position.
Rouge ended up taking 2 tries (not including the intentional tank after the shrine), Knuckles took 2, and Sonic took 3. Biolizard took...a lot more than 3.

Yeah SM I've always been wondering how 584 rings is possible.
There's 524 rings in the stage, and 6 checks to manipulate, meaning you'd need to get 60 rings from them. 4 times a 5 rings box, twice a 10 rings box and once a 20 rings one.
Seeing as you need to use all 6 checks, you need to backtrack pretty much the whole level. Not only is most of the backtracking already difficult, but I also still haven't found a way to backtrack from check 4 to 3.
That being said, I easily got my 400+ rings in Final Rush with Sonic and, I easily defeated Biolizard without taking a hit with Shadow and I easily got sub2:00 in Radical Highway.
So if anyone could answer my question: how long can Knuckles stay underwated without his necklace?

Two 10s and a 20 leave only room for three 5s. Of course, disregarding checks, DC has 529 rather than 524 (the first 10 on the spiral rail turns to 5 on GC), so three will suffice.
As with all Sonic games, the drown timer is 30 seconds.

I'm 95% sure that my Biolizard time on TSC (http://www.soniccenter.org/members/groudon199/sonic_adventure_2_b/bosses/biolizard/last (http://www.soniccenter.org/members/groudon199/sonic_adventure_2_b/bosses/biolizard/last)) was achieved without taking damage. The ending is the only part I'm not sure about, but at least one of those 3:19 times was achieved damage-less.

- Complete Wild Canyon Mission 5, as Knuckles. Once you leave the ground of the starting platform, you may not allow Knuckles to stand on a horizontal surface, with the exception of a single pillar in the wind tunnel room, for the entire duration of the level. Choose wisely!

18.07 (http://soniccenter.org/videos/2-4-2-5-1807.avi) would already qualify depending on one questionable interpretation: there's an A-B-B speed burst at the start that involves jumping off the starting floor and then landing back on that same floor. Once I break the plane of the forward edge of that floor, there is indeed no standing, but it is its own brief airborne section.

I have no qualms with allowing it because you could just as easily redo it without the A-B-B, super red is a little more interesting than the previous red emeralds/keys/muffins, while it still focuses on DESTROYING THINGS and/or Score, more on that later!

530 tries. The "no boosts" is an absurd, random, and very poorly thought out restriction. If you can pass the 59th car before the bottleneck, then you won't be in any time trouble, and if you can't pass it by then, there's nothing you can do except dig in behind it, which forces you to lose so much time that there's no shot at the 2:50.
The closest run-in is with car 13, right at the end of the lap 1 tunnel, but you can check that part to see and hear that there's no collision and the car stays intact behind me.
In summary: That's three straight challenges you clearly haven't thought out and tested sufficiently. I doubt you'll be running this much longer.
