News and Updates / Oh, boy! The hype is real!
« on: August 13, 2017, 01:04:12 pm »
So, it looks like with Mania, Sonic is closer than ever to actually truly going back to his roots. Ya, rly. It took him more than two decades, which is "not baaad", like an echidna would say after laying a shiny single egg. Yeah, they DO lay eggs. Isn't that cool? Anyway, I digress. With the release of the highly anticipated new Sonic game around the corner for console users (:V), I guess I should announce here that we will try to add charts for the game as soon as possible. During the first week of competition, players don't need to provide video proof for first places, because that would be really annoying. This is a policy that we will apply for any newly added games from now on. Of course, we still encourage you to share your runs with the world. Sharing is caring!

In other news, I am finally back to Spain after a whole year backpacking through Asia and Oceania. It feels weird. The good news is that some people contacted me about my request for coders in my last front page post, and now I will finally have the time to coordinate them with Gerbil to try and get some work done on the site. New features might finally come.

In the meantime, here is a video I recorded in Taiwan a couple weeks ago. See you on the charts, fuckers!

Also, play Yooka-Laylee if you haven't already. :)

News and Updates / New Heaven, New Earth. Introducing a new site rule
« on: January 01, 2017, 10:05:00 pm »
Hello, TSCers. Long time no see! Speedrunning has come a long way since this lovely site some of us like to call home took its first baby steps more than 13 years ago. In the recent years, most important speedrunning websites have revolved around video proof, having players record and link to their whole performances for their records to count or be submittable at all.

Several players have pointed this out on our forums, suggesting that we should catch up with the times. Even though it could have seemed like these requests fell on deaf ears, that was not the case. However, the staff wanted to do it the elegant way, overhauling the site to focus on encouraging players to prove their records instead of making proving your records mandatory. A hidden staff board on our forums is full of good ideas on how to achieve this the best possible way.

The problem is that such approach requires a skilled coder with free time willing to do the hard work a site redesign takes. We have done our best to find one, but it's not an easy task and we ultimately gave up (at least, I did). That's why we are introducting the following new rule:

As of 2017/01/01, all first-place records (including ties) must have a video of the whole run linked in the stat comment. Emulator runs must have an input file linked instead. Please, use the following site to upload input files: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php

We think it's a good compromise, because having players prove every submission would be overkill. In any case, depending on how it goes, we might make the rule stricter in the near future (top 3 records?).

If you are a programmer reading this and are willing to code for TSC, please contact me!

News and Updates / New Sonic Adventure 2 charts
« on: April 10, 2015, 02:50:58 am »
We all know that speedruns that don't involve checkpoint abuse are, in general, way more impressive than those that do. For this reason, we are considering adding Mission 4 time charts to the rankings. We would allow submitting checkless Mission 1 times to said charts, as long as the player provides a video of the run. What do you think?

Anyway, let me seize this opportunity to try this new YouTube feature recently implemented...

Rejoice at some of the amazing world records and achievements a few of our members have set during the last thirty days:
By the way, predicting is fun.

2+3 - 1+0 + 2+0+1+4 = 11

TSC has turned 11!11 Math proves that the universe is trying to tell us something. Thankfully, Gerbil was able to fix the site and reenable submissions just in time for its birthday. To celebrate it, Thorn and I have been actively deleting incorrect records that have been sitting in our rankings for quite a while. Therefore, if you see one or more of your records disappear during the next few days, that means you are in our blacklist and will never be able to sign up for TSC Gold, and "gold is better than silver" (the Pokémon games being one of the few exceptions).

Since TSC has been fixed and has a good chance of receiving a much-needed facelift (new features and chart design will be implemented if Gerbil finally gives STL access to the site), you can progressively stop being sad and start sleeping again. In the meantime, rejoice at some of the amazing new world records a few our members have set during the last thirty days:

I have a lot of free time at work now, so I'm considering writing monthly competition updates from now on.

P.S.: Lugia >> Ho-Oh

News and Updates / TSC has been online for a decade!
« on: October 23, 2013, 04:37:00 am »
TSC is ten years old today. Yeah, really. How time flies, etc. Feel free to celebrate it with your beverage of choice! It has been ten years full of healthy competition and, most importantly, fun and friendship. At least that's what I have been told! (I joined in 2007 >_>). There has been drama too, of course, but THE FUN CANNOT BE HALTED. Thanks everyone for submitting records, discussing strategies, calling BS and visiting. It's your contributions that make this site the "premiere resource for the best Sonic series players". Holy crap we're awesome!

Sega's birthday present has been an average Sonic game. Woo! It's a bit new I warn you. By the way, a race to celebrate this Milestone is being organized and will take place in two days. Now you think on what skill you have cost!

Are you ready for 10 more years? Here we go buddy, here we go buddy. Rolken, the pimp who started it all, should be proud.

Edited to update the image's URL because Photobucket turned into crap in 2017.

News and Updates / TSC has an official YouTube channel!
« on: October 10, 2010, 05:59:44 pm »

Today I have launched SonicCenterDotOrg, TSC's official YouTube channel. I will be uploading there most decent videos hosted by TSC that aren't on YouTube.

This should help to increase TSC's popularity and it will serve as a repository, preventing the loss of this awesome stuff if our database gets deleted.

If you have videos on TSC and don't want them on YouTube, contact an administrator.

I got all my ring statistics for Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2 playing on Nomal mode. If playing on Easy mode isn't allowed, we have to add a new rule about it under Rings category for the three Sonic Advance games.

Too bad she is 10,000 miles away from him. :( But ehh, distance doesn't matter when searching for real love. :D

P.S.: I utilized the verb 'search' on purpose. I'm that cool. (:

Bugs / Ghost rules
« on: September 17, 2008, 12:12:19 pm »
Basically, all the uncategorized rules that appear on the section Competition Rules can't be modified or deleted. Why? They don't appear when an administrator is editing said section. Now you may wonder how do I know this information if I'm not an administrator. Well, this is because I have this. :D

Back to the subject, there are a few examples of rules that should be deleted (but can't):
- The rule for Sonic R. It just should be deleted.
- A rule for Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 ("Pressing B or C while the game is paused is not allowed."). This rule is redundant because a previous rule states that "Level select is allowed, but debug mode is not."
- A rule for Sonic 2 ("In Sonic charts, you may not use Sonic and Tails."). This rule is not valid anymore. We even have statistics that break it and are accepted as legal. But it can't be deleted.

Having into account that this is mainly a competition site and rules are very important in this kind of sites, I think this problem should be fixed as soon as possible. :(

But we really reached that number a while ago. Anyway, I use this as an excuse to post this poll.

Bugs / Missing stat in a chart
« on: September 02, 2008, 08:27:56 am »
This time is supposed to appear in this chart. If it was deleted because he BS'd, he should have been banned and the history should have been deleted as well. :s I think it was Mike who deleted it because of this post.

See what you got, Shaky. xD

After reading this topic, I think a few of your stats could be against the rules. I would have posted this on that topic, but it was locked (yes, that topic is one of the very few non-sticky topics locked in the past two years <_<).

Mike89's stats.
Ninty's stat.

Rules Revisions / Playing as Sonic and Tails in 2D games [Resolved]
« on: May 16, 2008, 05:57:00 am »
Some time ago Mike said the rule that forbids playing as Sonic and Tails in Sonic charts could change in the future. This issue applies to at least two games (Sonic 2 for Genesis and Sonic Advance for Game Boy Advance), so we should debate it.

I think manipulating Tails is fair, so I voted yes.

Until this issue is resolved, ignore the rule related to this that I suggested for Sonic Advance because I suggested it just to be coherent with the rule for Sonic 2 for Genesis.

-----

RULING (by Rules Committee): The Sonic+Tails combo may be used on Sonic charts, but Tails may never come under direct player control. (In other words, don't touch controller 2!)

Competition Central / Glitchallenge!
« on: April 27, 2008, 08:28:35 am »
Months ago I discovered a cool glitch on Sonic Advance. This game has gotten some competition lately so I think this is a good chance to challenge those who love glitches in general.

Figure out what I did between 0:50 and 1:40. In other words; get to the boss as Tails while gravity is glitched. If you figure it out, make a video and post it here. Good luck!

Competition Central / Awesome Sonic Advance maps
« on: March 30, 2008, 01:52:50 pm »
Ok, so the other day a friend told me about a site with video game maps. I did some research and found some awesome Sonic Advance maps made by TerraEsperZ. By chance, he has just joined TSC. So I have a request for you, TEZ: please, make maps with the same quality for all zones when you have the time!

And good job on the ones you already did back on 2005.

P.S.: Welcome... xD

Beef / Missing award
« on: March 17, 2008, 10:10:34 pm »
According to this, DsS should have received the Most Championships award (7) on February 18, because he was champion of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Fighters, Sonic Riders, Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Adventure (DX). However, he didn't get it. GERB, IS your award system FAILING?
