Competition Central / Marble Zone -- new glitch?
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:37:01 am »
Found this on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryPxjlFoJK0

Unless I missed out on something, this looks new... any idea whether it can save you time?

Competition Central / Yet ANOTHER glitch to BAN for S3K
« on: October 19, 2009, 12:18:37 am »
HOLY SHIT. ORKAL has done it once more.

Basically, this glitch allows you to start the level from a bonus ring.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyqcmNxn2OA

The scary thing is, it's entirely debug-less and Super-form-less. (You will need emeralds for this, but you never actually turn Super/Hyper)

Competition Central / S3K -- ORKAL DISCOVERS NO-CHEAT SLOW MOTION GLITCH
« on: September 21, 2009, 12:42:27 pm »
Either ban it or approve it and make TAS-like untouchable stats without actual TAS. Can you imagine all the player's skill put into a slo-mo version of the game?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1atT6qrRLY

This is a video of several different Lava Reef 1 glitches, but the last of them "The Megaglitch" resets the game, and creates a weird mode when some sprites flicker horribly, music plays stupidly fast, and the game plays stupidly slow, including the timer.

The video says "lags" but I am pretty sure it's more similar to a slow-motion thing, it looks EVEN. Not jerky, like lag, but even like slo-mo.

Seriously, this is... Wow.

Information Kiosk / Knuckles in Sonic 1 hack: YAY or NAY?
« on: February 27, 2009, 09:49:22 am »
We all know what SEGA did instead of "Sonic 1 and Knuckles".
We all know that Stealth has facepalmed SEGA and created a "Knuckles in Sonic 1" hack, which plays JUST like the official games -- it's spot on. Very professional.
The hack can be found on http://info.sonicretro.org/Knuckles_the_Echidna_in_Sonic_the_Hedgehog

Of course, hacks are the domain of TUSC, but I think that maybe an exception could be made. This hack is a logical "prequel" to S2K, is what SEGA should have done a long time ago. This hack is not a change of level layouts or anything. It's that what should have been.

So, the question is: do you want Knuckles charts for Sonic 1 enough to put up with the fact that it's a hack?

General Sonic / Sound problems in Gens and Fusion -- please help.
« on: December 15, 2008, 04:00:33 am »
Thanks to a certain YouTube video, I've finally found where Realtek HD keeps the microphone boost, but there's one problem -- I can listen to MP3, Youtube and stuff like that completely fine, but everything from Sega Genesis emulators comes out HORRIBLY distorted, seemingly regardless of sound settings.
It doesn't seem to affect just one particular sound channel, each one seems distorted on it's own.

Of course I could just turn mic boost back off, but that's a pain in the ass. Is there any way to deal with it and keep the mic boost?

General Sonic / Thank you TSC for raising my Sonic skillz
« on: November 07, 2008, 06:36:00 am »
I thought I suck...
But after seeing Sonic Retro's "Malevolent Boss" thread, I know I don't, it's just that TSC rocks far too much, lol!

The story: there's a custom boss hack named "Malevolent Boss" made by Malevolence. It's an edit of GHZ boss, and a fun one, too!
However, all the people there, including the creator say that it's probably impossible to defeat him without using invincibility or getting hit.
I've tried the hack, and, you know, from such a massive "it's hard!" topic I've expected something harder. About 10 tries later and I record a successful no-damage run on him. Uploading the YouTube video right now.

Sorry if you think this is all unneccessary. Maybe it is.
But what is neccessary has been already said in the subject: THANK YOU TSC.

EDIT: Vid is up! Check it out, this boss is pretty cool, as well as a no-hit run on him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vpw8h-2oq2I

Competition Central / Someone, PLEASE make use of THIS!
« on: November 06, 2008, 05:06:57 pm »
I've found a Hydrocity video which looks like it has the potential to be a record-smasher, but I just can't pull it off to see.
Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv3ATPm1VTE

He lands in some strange location and dies of drowning. Which sucks, because the glitch is BIGTIME EPIC.

Found an utterly hilarious fic by Wetflame. Link: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=11271&view=findpost&p=209966

This is seriously both the funniest AND the most epic piece of text I have ever read. :D A good explanation for why Eggman always outruns Sonic in S2 Death Egg.

Competition Central / Yet another question for Sonic 1 RAers
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:41:08 pm »
Right now I have 5 levels to worry about: Star Light 1, Star Light 3, Scrap Brain 1, Scrap Brain 2, Scrap Brain 3.

Questions:
1) Which one is the easiest?
2) Which one (if any) includes the least amount of oddball tricks and glitches, because I refues to look at SkyLights's videos just yet?

Competition Central / GHZ1 Rings -- DONE
« on: October 25, 2008, 10:22:33 am »
225 rings. Finally achieved that trick on the 30-ring cluster. Thank you SkyLights, for a shorter route through the rest of the level which gave me more time and more tries to do the trick.

Was ridiculously close to Time Over, one reason being the antivirus update messing up a really good try at that cluster by popping up RIGHT when I was ready to tap the R key to get mysef aligned properly. Still got it though.

I know most of you probably won't care, since it's a very easy trick compared to what you do, but it was very hard for me and I simply HAD to post about this.

Competition Central / My first record -- YAYZ!
« on: October 24, 2008, 09:15:23 am »
Sorry, I was too lazy to record this as a GIZ (since this is somewhat annoying) and it's improvable by a couple of seconds because I suck, but anyway.

Sandopolis 1 as Tails is now 1:20 due to a HUGE timesaver.

YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
What I messed up is the first "sand flow" (I forgot that I had to press jump :O) and the boss battle because I was too wimpy to try and nail that "last hit" on the boss after a glitch that was somewhat difficult for me.

YAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Thankfully I always savestate the "sweet moment of victory" so I have a screenshot.
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/5509/proofwb6.png

But for the GIZ, and therefore unfakable proof, you'll have to wait until I'll be able to pull it off again.

EDIT: GIZed, and also redone the first section, making it 1:16.

Competition Central / Quesiton for Sonic 1 RAers.
« on: September 21, 2008, 08:46:52 am »
I have done GHZ 2 and 3, all of Marble, all of Spring Yard, and all of Labyrinth.
I know how to do GHZ 1 but can't pull it off as of yet.
Question is: should I try to do the trick on GHZ 1 or is it better to just forget about it for a while and go try Star Light?

General Sonic / Your type of RA: the puzzle or the trick?
« on: September 19, 2008, 05:02:36 pm »
So, what's your favorite RA? The ones that are complex logically, but can be done with no glitches, or ones that require ridiculous bug exploits and tricks?

My favorites are the puzzles, but I'm a poll holder, so I'm not voting. :P

Competition Central / Holy crap, my first perfect stat!
« on: September 14, 2008, 04:01:06 am »
Marble 1 RA -- perfect!

Looks like GHZ is a much harder zone to start off -- no wonder I chalked it off as too hard for me.

Time to look at Marble 2, now I'm motivated!
EDIT: And Marble 2 RA also perfect to boot... Wtf, it's my lucky day. Gotta figure out how to visit both routes on Marble 3, shouldn't be too hard.
EDIT 2: Another one bites the dust, Marble 3 also done. Took me longer since I kept screwing up, but it still was pretty easy.

Now, let's try some others.

Information Kiosk / Ring Allergy?
« on: July 30, 2008, 04:34:48 pm »
If you have a Ring Attack, why not have a Ring Allergy, where the goal is to collect as FEW rings as possible, and you can't lose rings in any way. (i.e. can only lose shields. That's to prevent things from being too easy)

It's a lot more difficult than it sounds, to the point where zero rings is impossible in some levels (example: Labyrinth 2 due to that ring box on a switch)

Rules Revisions / S3K glitch question
« on: July 08, 2008, 07:46:54 pm »
There are some particular glitches which either "shift" the beginning of the act to a later part (well, that could be considered resetting time to zero) or make the game think that you have completed an act while, in reality, you haven't.

Examples:
The former -- Play Ice Cap 1 as Knux. Reach the boss without hitting any checkpoints. Die from the boss. The act will restart directly from the boss fight and you can easily get a small time.

The latter -- Launch Base 1:
1) Take an elevator. You need one particular, but I don't remember which, I saw it in a video anyway.
2) Either take damage or turn super while inside the elevator. You'll maintain control.
3) Spindash a few times to pause the camera. The elevator will unload and you'll be stuck in a wall.
4) Zip to the right. If you took the correct elevator you'll be able to reach Knuckles's boss area. Now, he has TWO guys to fight, right? Sonic, however, normally has only one.
5) Hit both of the bosses 7 times.
6) Kill one of them.
7) Wait for the game to give you "act 1 completed" message".
8) As soon as you regain control, kill the other boss.
9) The game will credit you for completing "act 2" under 2-3 seconds.

Are such actions allowed? I certainly hope not, cause if they are, such bugs will utterly destroy any competition on the levels vulnerable to them.

Hiya Folks / Very new here!
« on: May 15, 2008, 05:21:40 am »
So, I like Sonic games (although I'm a wimp, and often use savestates, I'll try not to) and I see these killer stats...
Okay, let's see... Time Attack -- scrap it, I can't do a well TA of ANYTHING. I'm Slow The Hedgehog. :D
Score Attack -- ditto.
Ring Attack -- this will probably my favorite, but definitely NOT simple. Since this is more of a challenge of routeplanning than action (except of getting hit by the damn exploding stars :D ) I will try that first, but seeing what has been done, you're crazy. And in a damn good way that is.
So, what do you suggest for a good start (other than ditching the savestates, that is?)
