General Sonic / Sonic Heroes Team Sonic speedrun attempt (single segment)
« on: January 26, 2009, 03:00:34 am »
I've mentioned this in chat and there's a topic over at SDA already made by PM888 who had finished a Team Rose run, but he's been inactive lately and his run hasn't even been sent for submission.  I've already done a couple of attempts, but before I go any further, I want the advice of my fellow TSC members on what I can do to improve this run before I submit it.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Competition Central / MM9 charts?
« on: January 14, 2009, 08:40:10 pm »
yes/no?

I'm willing to discuss rules for these too.  So far the only place I know who is heavily competitive is a couple of folks at SDA who have been diligently figuring out the ins and outs of the game and dominating the charts when they can who each version.

Due to what the charts allow for the leaderboards on the console, should we do the same or set some boundaries?  Also a full game chart, special stage, endless mode?

-delete total division from S-rank in Zero 1
-delete ultimate mode times/s-ranks in Zero 3
-delete total-total in Zero 2

I should have pointed this out as soon as it was finalized, but from now on, no one submit scores to Sonic Heroes as it'll be a waste of time and effort.

below is the reasons why and what followed to it.  I thought the deletion would have happened sooner, but Gerbil is taking his sweet time with it.  If you feel bad about it, well too late.  This topic and the info have been floating around for months now and if you're just now learning about it, start socializing with your fellow members, it makes things a lot easier that way.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well this was brought up around June/July when I finished my score guide to Egg Fleet-Dark for blueblazer who needed some help with the stage.  Then by accident I stumbled across the method to obtaining the mysterious 200 point bonuses that I'm sure some of you have gotten by now and had no clue how it happened (and if you did you should have said something!)

Next thing I know, I find out you could get a bigger bonus without comboing or killing any enemy by stunning them, then thundershooting another untouched enemy.  Getting bonuses from 200-1000 from 3-4 enemies...but that was the problem, getting a bigger bonus from so few enemies when more are needed for a certain bonus.

Then I get the suggestion that it might just be from thundershooting period and no fancy crap was needed (thank you JBertolli)...that's what changed it.  All you needed to do was thundershoot any grounded enemy repeatedly for some random bonus to pop up.  This went from a group of enemies to just 1 all in one day of testing.

I have a video put up showing you it can be done in various ways and also with all teams.  As other have tested, this does work on the PC and PS2 versions and I wouldn't put it past the Xbox version to have fixed this either.

video of said glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbX0GR6GRvA

also if you think this could be simply avoided...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Onz7mkbPEJA

watch the above at 2:07.  maybe I should have my score taken down, or maybe even my last score resulted in a random bonus I didn't even notice when playing.  That was just from thundershooting and that run was done back in May.  I don't know about you, but starting over a run just because I used a move that's perfectly fine in the game isn't much fun.

Gaming and Grazing / Gamestop's Super Smash Bros. Brawl National Tournament
« on: February 21, 2008, 08:05:07 pm »
basic info:

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/ssbb/tournament/default.asp

more details:

-It's open to everyone 13 years or older.
-It will be at 9PM on Saturday, March 8th.
-It will lead into a Midnight release.
-As far as I can tell, it's starter characters only.
-I believe it's 1v1.
-The winner of the stores goes to district level, then regional, then national.

I got this info from a store employee.  I'd recommend calling your nearest Gamestops and seeing if they are having a tournament if you're serious about this.

I want to attend myself regardless of the attendance.

TMMC News / New Hope
« on: January 19, 2008, 02:56:13 am »
With the event of a newcomer (The Mario Center) and its actual changes and presentation, I just couldn't sit back and let TMMC go under without some kind of struggle.  I'm a type of person who enjoys seeing progress get done and well, this place needs it badly.  I'm going to attempt to give this place some life (via an energy tank if you will) and spruce up the place.  First by removing that depressing message on the front page with this one and giving the site a new look.  Anything else I do is just from me having a lot of time on my hands and maybe able to implement some of the array of ideas that others here have had floating about.  I'm not promising anything and this may fail again, and by that chance I would declare this place scrap.  One thing I have learned is that Megaman competition either exists out there somewhere, or we are giving an under appreciated alternative.  Either way, this place was brought forth with thought of changing that and I wouldn't like to see it die out just yet.

So these guys took it upon themselves to release a Gaming only edition of this record book that's due in February of 2008.  I just found out about it from watching Attack of the Show (yeah yeah G4 sucks...whatever) as they were building the worlds tallest working arcade cabinet.

Anyway, I go to visit the site and the book isn't too bad.  Just from the preview it seems to be covering a wide range of categories throughout the years.  Well besides me applying to win a free PS3 (if its free I'll get it dammit), there was an application page.

http://gamers.guinnessworldrecords.com/get_involved.aspx

Basically its like the regular book in which records are the be done live in front of judges.  There are also other categories to be applied for and I was thinking maybe we could get in it for something....I just dont know what.

Maybe this might end up in the "cool TSC ideas that start but never finish" bin, but its something to consider.  I mean, for us to be around for 4 years, it would be nice to leave a mark on the world if this site was to ever go under and let people know we once existed.

Competition Central / Megaman: The Power Battle
« on: May 18, 2007, 01:24:12 am »
something else came up in chat about this game and I'm kinda undecided about it myself, but it makes sense.

basically the removal of all the characters having their own charts for times and scores and just having 1 for each scenario for time and score.  The differences between characters is rather miniscule compared to Power Fighters where it does matter.  Just something to think about.

Competition Central / grounds for FULL playthroughs
« on: May 18, 2007, 01:05:55 am »
Been in the chat and have been talking and stuff with Mike. U, and brung up some things about full gameplay runs and if this is really going to be apart of TMMC or not.  Just want to get an established answer as to either this is to take part in competition or not.

Out of all the games on the lists, which ones would be better suited for this task if not all of them.  The ones that have it (the 2 fighters) is a given, but for others can be a pain just like why every megaman game isn't on the last as is.

For the X and Zero games its a given since they can give you your total time upon completion (zero series you need a fresh file which in turn means a new game for completion)

But what the remaining games?  Battle Network, Powered Up, Legends, Xtreme 1-2?

I remember the case of some of them being too long of a playthrough and probably wouldn't hold too many people to that, but Powered Up could benefit from it.

Also another thing mike brought up (TSC mike) was that why not have 2 categories for full playthroughs of the Zero series.  1 for new game and new game+

Now for these to be submitted, this would be on 1 single playthrough...no saves during the times its being done.

shouldn't for some of their stages, be an extra section because some of their extra missions require you to do more in that stage than their first mission...(e.i., Seaside Hill)
