Gaming and Grazing / A shocking gaming related confession.
« on: June 14, 2008, 05:58:40 pm »
I have a confession to make. A rather shocking one at that. I  hate the Ghouls and Ghosts series. I know they're supposed to be a land mark series, but there's some things about them that I just can't stand. Now, I love a hard game, but this series is hard for all the WRONG reasons, namely the bad controls. This is the core reason why I hate this series. The jumping controls are some of the most broken, crippled controls I've seen in a major game series. Most of my deaths in this game come by sole virtue of how crappy and clumsy these controls are. This wouldn't be so much of a problem if the game didn't abuse your limitations so frequently. The best way to avoid dying or getting hit durinig situations that require a jump is to simply memorize the area and the timing rather than tactically fight and evade your enemy, a big case of trial and error game play indeed. Compared to the razor sharp controls of a Mario, Mega Man, or Metroid game (games that were out at the same time as this series), the jump controls are simply unacceptable. As my last point, think about this question. Would the game be as frustrating if it had the same good controls as a Mario, Mega Man, or Metroid game?

I do however, enjoy Maximo, the spiritual successor to Ghouls and Ghosts a lot.

Gaming and Grazing / Games that need to be on the VC.
« on: March 14, 2008, 12:29:55 am »
Topic is simple enough. Discuss the games you think should be on the Virtual Console.

1. U.N. Squadren: A port that actually surpassed the Arcade version. Tight controls, cool power ups, several planes with different play styles and difficulty that was just right produces one of the best 2d shooters ever made. Was also one of the first SNES games.
2. Kirby's Super Star: THE definitive Kirby game. Wide variety of powers, cool bosses, and some of the deepest combat ever seen in a Kirby game. Also needs to be on the VC because it was pretty rare in the US. (I'm lucky I have a copy.)
3. Demon's Crest: One of the best games of 1994. Lots of stuff to do, multiple endings and overall fun gameplay. Needs to be on the VC because it is one of the most tragically under the radar games ever. (Sold really poorly when released due to virtually no publicity which is a shame since most people who played it loved it.)

Gaming and Grazing / Tropes in video games.
« on: March 04, 2008, 04:07:09 pm »
Found something interesting about cliches or common themes. (Thank tvtrops for this.) Its called tropes and it applies to TV, anime, and games. Some of these are actually pretty funny. For this topic, request a video game (or series) and I will write all the tropes (and examples) that the game is guilty of. This seems like a fun topic so lets give it a go.

My first highlight will be the Sonic series. Sonic actually has a trope named after it, "Sonic Syndrome" which represents a gradual or immediate fall from grace when transistioning from 2d to 3d. Other tropes include (stuff from the comics and tv shows are ignored:
1. Arabian Nights Days (SSR)
2. Because Destiny says (prophecy junk)
3. Character Derailment (Knuckles and Egg Man)
4. Classic cheat code
5. Clingy jealous girl (Amy)
6. Colony Drop (Ark)
7. Compliation release
8. Cool shades (Egg Man)
9. Dark Magical Girl (Shadow, one of the extremely rare male examples) This trope is an anime one that embodies the fear of being alone and its effects are manifested in someone who can be best described as a dark twin of the main character (often more powerful in combat). These character types are almost always redeemed through an emotional heart to heart talk.
10. Darker & Edgier
11. Dead Little Sister (Maria)
12. Death Course (hazards in most unlikely of places)
13. Eleventh Hour Super power (need I say it)
13. Enemy Mine (hero and villian work together)
14. Executive Meddling
15. Five Man Band (the main 5)
16. Flanderization (too many examples)
17. Floating Advice reminder (SA and beyond)
18. Genre Roulette
19. Goggles do nothing (Egg Man)
20. Gratitous English (voice acting)
21. Green Hill Zone (lush, green easy stage, Sonic's is the one its named after)
22. Half Dressed Cartoon animal
23. Hostage for Mc Guffin (SA2)
24. It seemed like a good idea at the time (Knuckles tactics with the emerald)
25. Killer App (Genesis and Dreamcast games)
26. Lets you and him fight (Sonic vs whatever character Sega throws at him)
27. Mac Guffin Delivery service (Egg Man does this in SA)
28. Mad Scientist
29. Mecha Monster (Metal Sonic)
30. Mercy invincibility (rings)
31. Multiple Endings
32. Pallete Swap (Hedgehogs)
33. People Jars (animals in robots)
34. Personality powers (Sonic, Knuckles)
35. Plot coupon (Chaos emeralds)
36. Power Trio (Team Sonic)
37. Punny Name (Tails and Egg Man)
38. Strange Bedfellows (Cannon's Core)
39. Underwater Ruins
40. Villian Decay (Egg Man)
41. Wave Motion Gun (Eclipse Cannon)
42. Wheel o Feet
43. White Gloves

SJ and I have been talking about some new Rock Challenge ideas in chat a while back. So far we've agreed on a few ideas.

1. Air Shooter Challenge: Survive a specific number of Air Shooter attacks, then kill Airman. Due to the random nature of the attacks (some waves are undodgeable), 9-10 seems reasonable.
2. Pacifist challenge: Clear a stage while only killing those enemies you have to kill to progress. You only need to reach the boss door. So far I've tested Air Man, Quick Man and Metal Man's stages to see what you have to kill. Let's just say item 1 is recommended.
3. Quickman laser challenge. In this evil game of chicken you must touch a certain number of platforms in the second laser section.
4. Special weapon only challenges: Like buster only, but only using a specific special weapon. The weapon is usually selected because of its high ammo capacity. Exception: If the weapon of choice is useless against a mid boss or boss, you may substitute the buster.
5. Weapon restriction challenge (MMZ): Clear the stage while only using a specific weapon such as Shield Boomerang or a Rod.

Note: Normal difficulty is to be used whenever possible (NES normal for MM2). I'm probably forgetting a few challenges.

Gaming and Grazing / DMC 4 Hands on impressions.
« on: January 25, 2008, 08:09:48 pm »
The DMC 4 demo is now availible on X-Box Live. Just played it yesterday and have some comments.

1. In general, the camera is a big improvement over previous games. You can now turn it at will (instead of fixed angle) during a fight.
2. The Devil Bringer is pretty cool. Use it for long distance jumps, bring enemies to you, or even drag yourself to large enemies. Easily abused in battle.
3. The game looks terrific. That's all I'll say about that.
4. The boss I fought was cool. Reminds me of those Pit Lords from WC3:TFT.
5. The new roll (LB+A while moving left or right) maneuver is really useful. Saved my sorry bum on several occasions.

The Flutter / ITT We talk War Hammer 40k
« on: January 22, 2008, 03:45:11 pm »
For those who don't know, War Hammer 40k is a table top strategy game set in the distant (and horribly violent) future. You assemble/ paint models, prepare army lists and try to kick some ass. There are various races such as Space Marine, Chaos, Orks, Imperial Guard, Tau, Tyranids, so on. I collect an Imperial Guard army. IG is basically a typical modern human army. Pros: Large numbers, can point in the most points worth of heavy and special weapons in the game, best tanks in the game, best defense skills in the game. Cons: Fragile, low leadership, las gun is horrible, their armor will block practically no long range weapons. With the new epic game rules, I plan on building the ultimate "tread head" army, with 2 Bane Blades (very first epic game only model to get the plastic treatment and is the biggest all plastic model ever made by Games Workshop) as the center pieces.

Disgaea 3 (Japanese version) should be out for the PS3 soon and based on current trends, the US should expect the game in late summer to early fall (we usually get these games about 7-8 months after the Japanese release).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=217q6a81MXE

From what I've seen in the opening scene, Laharl, Etna, Flonne, Axel, the main heroine from Phantom Brave?, and all seven Prism Rangers make cameos. As for playable classes we get archers, gunner (male), heavy knight, male and female warriors, beastmasters, ninja (male), ninja (female), geomancers, samurai (female), gunner (female), either a unique bow user or a male archer, mage (female), rogue (female), prinnys, wood golems, several monsters from Makai Kingdom (the cats, mushrooms, and skull things), succubi, ghosts, and flower things (from D2).

The main characters of this game are Mao (nerdy guy with glasses) and Rasberyl (the girl with pink hair, probably gets changed to Rasberry in the US version if it comes).

Gaming and Grazing / Its official, the world's gone insane.

I recently found something that reminded me of something from my childhood days that was extremely stupid, idiotic, etc. I'm sure some of you who were around during the 80's have heard of an idiot named Skip Rogers. For those who weren't Skip Rogers was a class S moron who made a series of "How to score more points" videos that basically contained "tips and tricks" that were either extremely obvious or flat out wrong. Here's a few clips, thanks to youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfpKbbna19I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JHjiDTOFZo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_8_hlecCLQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JyCy9fYFDU

The first one in particular is the worst of the bunch, containing so much misinformation that its ridiculous. Not only is his order really horrible (the best one is Air Man, Crash Man, Flash Man, Quick Man, Metal Man, Bubble Man, Heat Man, Wood Man), but his boss strategies on multiple bosses (the weapons) are flat out wrong. The only thing that vaguely impresses me is the ability to fight without special weapons.

Gaming and Grazing / Search for the most disturbing ending in VG history.
« on: November 08, 2007, 12:20:08 pm »
The topic is pretty self explanitory. Search for an VG ending that's real disturbing and post it here (no rule breaking stuff please). Eventually, a poll will be created after some amount of time if enough entries are put in. Well, here's my entry.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02XfTf874YY
English version with Japanese VA. Watch the 1st 50 seconds, then skip to 5:09 (to skip the credits) for the other part of the ending. This ending is so disturbing that parts of it were cut when set to English VA.

General Sonic / Hands-on report on M&S at the Olympic Games.
« on: October 26, 2007, 07:24:36 pm »
http://www.gamespot.com/wii/sports/mariosonicattheolympicgames/news.html?sid=6181759&tag=topslot;title;1
So far, the game is turning out pretty well (I thought it would). Called one of the most physically demanding video games ever. (Not those words exactly but its heavily implied.) The events that are most impressive are the hurdles, high jump, 4x100 Freestyle (swimming), and Table Tennis, according to GS the most fun event so far. This game is quite challenging, with the Javelin Throw, Triple Jump, Fencing, and 400m Hurdles being the most challenging events.

-Edit: I propose a TSC Competition bill to abbreviate this game M&SOG. All in favor say AYE.

Gaming and Grazing / Unofficial Top 10s topic.
« on: September 13, 2007, 12:15:31 am »
With the new TSC top 10 coming soon, its time for some unofficial top 10s. This edition is top 10s of gaming. Here's how it works. Vote for up to 10 games (give rank) in a category. The higher the rank, the more points it gets (max of 10). You can only pick ONE game per series to control fanboys, so choose wisely. Only vote for game's you've played before. The categories are as follows (I will vote in the categories) for this time around. Results will be posted when the TSC Top 10 is announced.

-Top 10 beat em ups (games like Final Fight, but must have multiplayer)
1. Alien vs Predator (arcade)
2. Lord of the Rings Return of the King
3. TMNT 4 (arcade)
4. Final Fight (arcade)
5. Battle Toads
6. The Simpsons (arcade)
-Top 10 Licensed games (based on tv show, movie, etc)
1. Astro Boy Omega Factor (GBA) Amazing hybrid of 2d shooters, brawlers, and Mega Man games. Too bad it did awful in terms of sales.
2. Alien vs Predator (Arcade): You have to play this one. For its time (1994) is a very deep brawler. You were powerful, but the game was still hard.
3. TMNT 4 (Arcade)
4. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
5. DBZ Budokai 3 (One of the only good DBZ games
6. The Simpsons (Arcade)
7. Batman (NES) Probably one of the first fun licensed games for a console (everything else sucked at the time)
8. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 4 (have to import for this)

General Sonic / About the voice acting. (Theoretical discussion)
« on: June 01, 2007, 10:35:27 pm »
The point of this topic is to have an intelligent discussion on who we think should do the voices for various characters. This is only theoretical assuming that 4kids does not do the voices. To get the ball rolling, I'll start with my thoughts.
-Sonic: Ryan Drummond
-Tails: Collen O'Shagnessy. (ToS Genis)
-Dark Spine Sonic: Yuri Lowenthal. Since DS form is from Sonic's dark side (sadness, anger, hatred), this character needs a voice that can easily show an intense degree of anger and hatred.
-Knuckles: Crispin Freeman (Overlord Zetta, Regal Bryant, and possibly Itachi)
-Shadow: David Humphrey
-Amy: Kate Higgins (Arietta, Sakura) Note: A lot of people think Kate Higgins would make a pretty good fit since Amy and Sakura have very similar personalities.
-Rouge: Michele Ruff (Disgaea 2's Etna). Rouge needs a manipulative, sarcastic voice. Whoever did Rozalin's voice would -also make a good fit as well.
-Espio: Steve Blum
-Dr. Egg Man: Michael McConnohie. (Van Grants, Captain Gordon, Hiashi). If it is possible to get Mike Pollack without 4kids, he would be better.
-Blaze: Kari Wahlgren (Raine Sage)
-Tikal: Tara Strong

-Note: I wish Bob Papenbrook (Disgaea's Thursday) was still alive. He would have made a perfect Gamma or Omega.

General Sonic / 1st impressions of Sonic Rush Adventure
« on: May 14, 2007, 12:45:32 pm »
The first impressions of SRA are up at ign and gamespot. From what I read, they both were pleased with how the game has turned out so far. It's basically the same thing as Rush, but with some more 3D stuff added. The new 3D stuff is merely cosmetic so far (Sonic being blasted towards the screen), but as long as there are no camera murders or increased amount of bugs (typical flaw in 3D), this is a good thing. There is a new island exploring mini game. Its purpose is to find new levels and be a general diversion that you can mess around with.

ROCK Challenges / Rock Challenge Series 1: Buster Only Pwnage
« on: May 04, 2007, 10:24:57 am »
Your objective should you decide to accept it, is to pwn robot masters from the classic and X series without using special weapons and record it. (This is just like the EC's at TSC.)
-Rules:
1. You may not use special weapons against a boss. You may however, use special weapons to get to the end of the level.
2. No sub tanks, energy tanks, etc.
3. No upgraded parts in the X series. (Heart tanks are still allowed.)
4. Use as many lives as you need to, but try to keep the vid short please.
-This topic will blow up in 15 seconds doods!

Dr. Light's Lounge / Mega Man ZX Advent Preview.
« on: May 02, 2007, 04:36:36 pm »
Since the forum has recently been added, its time to make it a bit more lively with the first TMMC discussion of new Mega Man titles. The newest game in the Mega Man franchise will be coming out this fall. http://ds.ign.com/articles/780/780687p1.html
-The game will apparently address the issues with ZX, including a better map interface, increased touch screen use, and the inclusion of english voice acting which was cut out of the US version for some dumb reason. (The Japanese version has full voice acting so we ended up with a watered down translation of the game with no extra content to compensate for the loss.) The human form isn't as useless as the previous characters were, actually being able to fight. The star of this game is Model A, a twin gun wielding reploid who can transform into the enemies he kills (cough, Axl). Seems kinda weird to play as Axl since he was absolutely nowhere in the Zero series, so how was he turned into a bio metal?
-Edit: It would seem that Model A's lock on system resembles what were to happen if E-102 Gamma's (SA:DX) shooting gameplay was translated into 2D.

The Flutter / Rare gems of gaming appreciation topic.
« on: May 02, 2007, 02:11:17 pm »
The point of this thread is simple. Every week, a new game that was awesome but real hard to come by and/or sold poorly will be discussed. Hopefully, this will inspire people to find these treasures and make them theirs.
-Game of the Week 1: Psychonauts (X-Box, PS2, PC). What can I say that hasn't already been said about this master piece? It has a wonderfully twisted sense of humor, the controls are excellent, and the worlds are all creative and imaginative. This game's failure is probably one of the most notorious examples of a great game that sells badly while lousy games sell well. Within the 1st year in all 3 platforms, Psychonauts sold less than 90,000 copies, some that really angered professional reviewers at the time. Having played this game myself, I can personally say that its worth the hype and should definately be in any gamer's collection. Note that the X-Box version is the best of the three.

Competition Central / Competition Rules Explanation thread
« on: April 29, 2007, 06:11:24 pm »
The point of this thread is to provide an explanation for the sites various competition rules.
1. The requirement of normal difficulty unless stated otherwise is there to set a uniform standard for competition. This rule comes from the TSC standard of speed runs.
2. Ultimate forms are not allowed because they remove all possible skill from doing a speed run. They take out any form of strategy involved in getting a fast time.
3. The most powerful form of a net navi is used in order to keep competition in the BN series consistent. It is also more convienent for players to use the most powerful form, especially if the player is stuck in the later sections of the game.
4. In MM:PU, enemies respawn when you scroll back to the location where an enemy was, allowing for near infinite points. There is also a precedent for this rule at TSC due to issues with cars in Sonic Adventure 2's City Escape.
5. The 96-100 mission score rule exists because the rankings use an average score in getting your overall rank in MMZ2-4. Requiring 96-100 reflects getting the S rank in the actual stage itself.
6. Cyber Elves are not allowed for a similar reason to Ultimate forms in the X series. While some elves are not as bad as others, there are elves in all three classes with potent effects on competition.
7. ROM save states are not allowed because of the high potential for cheating. I believe TSC allows ROMS as long as you don't abuse the save states. Although I personally recommend the actual game itself, there's nothing wrong with a ROM (I think).
8. Dark Chips are not allowed because of their negative effects on competition. (See Ultimate Armor)
9. Cyber Space is not allowed since it makes stuff considerably easier (enemies, other stuff).
10. The correct weather for the stage must be used for the same reasons Cyber Space is not allowed (also affects bosses).

51
This is an early draft of the TMMC forum rules awaiting ratification from the other staff. Hopefully this takes care of all the bad stuff.
1. Do not flame another member.
2. No images or posts containing depictions of hate speech, porn, or other bad things are allowed. Your avatar and sig may not have these things either.
3. No links to sites containing hate speech, porn, or other seedy things are allowed.
4. Do not spam.
5. Do not advertise. Posting a link to another Mega Man fan site is okay as long it does not contain things in conflict with the other rules. (We're talking about the other kinds of advertising that are real annoying.)
6. Thread necromancy is a bad thing. Please do not bump a topic that is more than 30 days old unless you have something important to mention in relation to the discussion. (Stickied threads are an exception.)
-Other things
1. Be sure you understand the competition rules before you begin competition. The link to the rules is here. http://megaman.soniccenter.org/rankings/rules If you do not understand a rule or its reason, check out the rule explanation guide in Competition Central (coming soon).

TMMC News / TMMC's forum is up and ready for business
« on: April 29, 2007, 02:51:01 pm »
The forums are now up thanks to Rolken. Awesome. We have several things that need to be done next before we can begin the TMMC opening ceremonies.
1. Establishment of the chatroom. How many sub channels do you think we need?
2. The site skin. What should be our theme. SJ came with an evolution of Mega Man idea that sounds pretty good.
3. Advertisement to other sites. sonicam came up with a good idea to recruit more members. I think we should also make speed run videos designed to get people interested in the site as well.
4. The opening ceremonies. We obviously need some form of gag party to commence the birth of TMMC (TSC is invited to take part). How should we go about this? Should we use the TMMC chat room or use a thread for the little party?

Rules Revisions / What constitutes a proper boss time?
« on: March 14, 2007, 12:27:22 pm »
I know this sounds like a stupid question, but something has recently been brought to TSC during a chat session on Monday. There is a glitch (very recently discovered by someone on gamefaqs) in Sonic 06 in which you can get a real fast time on Egg Wyvern without actually damaging him. This is the only game so far in which such a strange thing occurs. (The team battle glitch in SH does not apply since it still fulfills the knock everyone out of the ring win condition.) This brings up the question we should discuss. What course of action should we take and why? Here's our options.
1. Merely getting the clear screen is enough.
2. You must bring the hit points of the boss to zero.

Beef / Is something wrong with the chatroom?
« on: February 07, 2007, 12:54:59 pm »
Something's not right. The last time I used the chatroom was on Monday, discussing some new information on new attacks/abilities for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Now I can't get on at all. It says something about Nick Theft and other stuff even though I don't think I posted anything like that during my last discussion.

This thread is dedicated to a new forum game for the new year.
-Your assignment: Find the most idiotic news story you can find and post a link to it here. At the end of the year, a special forum based award show will be created to point out the stupidest events of 2007 by certain categories. I want this stickied because I intend this to be an ongoing project/game in TSC.
-Rules: Please keep the stories T rated at worst. No graphic/horrible images please.
-Here's an entry for our special "Moron Archives".  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuA0La81y3k&mode=related&search=
I'm sure some of you have heard about this one.

Finally, after all these years, a project I've been involved with is going to be ready for beta testing. Over the last three years, me and at least 10 other people with equally twisted minds have collaberated with the purpose of creating the funniest War Craft map ever made.
-Project Name: Reign of Satire.
-Project Type: War Craft III custom game.
-What is Reign of Satire: Reign of Satire is a game that parodies War Craft, battle net, and a whole bunch of random stuff. Choose from a group of twisted parody heroes such as the Troll Lord, Hack Master, Griefer, 1337 Lord, Newb Warrior, LUEser (don't ask) and many others, each with 5 abilities with funny descriptions. Crawl through the wastelands of battle net, hiring mercenaries from places like the Troll Infested Forum, Channel of the Dammed, and other hives of scum and villany. Travel to awesome dungeons such as Angel Island Zone, places from Metal Gear Solid, Metroid Prime, Devil May Cry, and even Middle Earth. Take part in the half time show, a giant mini game of sorts. Be on guard for Wario Ware inspired random events, which plague the game at periodic intervals. Buy items with sarcastic descriptions. Recruit crazy mascots for your team such as Mega Man, Sonic, Lingo the Grammer Robot, and even Mr. Clean.
-Object of the game: Destroy the enemy team's base.
-Number of players: 12.
-Other Notes: Members of Satire Team (I created our name, yes its a parody :D) will be receiving the map on Tuesday for initial beta testing. Public beta testing will begin on Wednesday. I was thinking of establishing a special TSC beta test later in the week. If anyone wants to join, post here. I will post the day, time (pacific time) and password to join the game.

General Sonic / My thoughts on an Amy spin off game.
« on: December 21, 2006, 04:47:32 pm »
Since I briefly mentioned it in one of the welcome threads, I'll post a basic summary of it here.
-Game type: 2D platformer.
-Difficulty: In line with the whole Sonic/Mega Man fusion, the ideal difficulty would be as tough as the Mega Man Zero series.
-Gameplay: As more enemies are defeated, the hammer gains experience. With each level up, Amy learns new attacks such as 3 hit combos , a hammer assisted spin dash, an anti-air rising attack (up+attack while on ground, can be done while running), a bounce ball like attack (down+ attack while air borne), and a boomerang like hammer toss (down +attack while on ground and stationary. Scattered across the levels are upgrades that unlock new abilties such as the light dash (mapped to its own button) and wall jump. (Bring the cool stuff from 3D games into a 2D one). With proper timing, it becomes possible to string together advanced combos using your attacks. (aerial strike--> three hit ground combo--> rising smash --> bounce ball for example)
Of course to please more people, you would be able to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow in their own side stories.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntLk_FURQJg
This link provides gameplay footage of the Zero inspired combat. (A Mega Man title can move pretty fast if you know what you're doing.) Imagine this fused with Sonic style speed and that describes my idea in a nut shell.

General Sonic / My thoughts on a Sonic RPG
« on: December 07, 2006, 10:24:33 pm »
I know the idea of putting Sonic in a RPG sounds crazy, but hear me out. My ideas are designed to make an RPG that attempts to maintain the trademark sense of speed as much as possible.
-Rating: E10
-Difficulty: Tough, but battles are more about player skill than about leveling up. Some boss fights would require some real clever tactics to defeat.
-Dungeon design: Dungeons would resemble traditional 3D Sonic like levels, but with a camera perspective more like a Tales game to prevent camera based disasters. There would be platforming, but the penalty for falling off a pit would be quite mild, such as some slight damage to the party before you respawn at the start of a platforming section. Each character has a special ability they can use if they are the party leader. Puzzles would involve clever use of those abilities (you'll have to change leaders sometimes). Secret areas of a dungeon or parts of a dungeon you have to revisit later can be explored by using the ability of a party member you got but didn't have at the time you first explored the dungeon.
-Battles: No random battles. Enemies appear in the dungeon normally. If you get a sneak attack on the enemy, you get a first strike on them. The same happens to you if enemies get the first strike. Merely running into enemies does not cause a first strike for anyone. When in battle, the battle system is like something you would see in Tales of Symphonia. Link to example here. Look under gameplay movie 13. http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/rpg/talesofphantasia/media.html The reason for this is because that battle system is fast paced, intense, and most importantly, fun. Team Blasts (tribute to Chrono Trigger's team attacks) would exist in the form of a TB gauge. Filling it 1/3 allows for a 2 man Team blast (your controlled character + one partner of your choice. 2/3 full = three man attack (your character + 2 characters of your choice). Full gauge= 4 man Team Blast.
-Characters: Playable characters would include Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Espio, Omega, Blaze, and Rouge.
-Other: I would intend the game's story to be funny. It would be light hearted, not take itself very seriously, and have some real clever dialouge (even items would have some form of funny or sarcastic description). EXP gain and level ups are fast to reduce the need to grind and maintain fast pacing. The level cap would be up to level 5000.
-Thoughts anyone?

Gaming and Grazing / Since its that time of year again.

Since December's coming around, its time to start planning our holiday wish lists. To all of you, I ask what major games are top priority for you this season? Since my highest priority is to get the Nintendo Wii, my priorities in terms of games are rather short at the moment.
-Final Fantasy XII. One of the few games that ever lives up to all of the hype. I was quite impressed with the demo that came with DQ8, so I've been waiting for this game for a long time.
-Gears of War (360): Not much to say about it that hasn't already been said before.
-Sonic Rivals: The only truly good Sonic racing game. Its about time they got it right (I didn't like Sonic R or Riders, though I'll have to complete a bunch of stuff in R so I can mock the legendary Tails Doll curse).
-Castlevania Portrait of Ruin: On the lower end of my priority list, but its supposed to be fun.
Warning, shameless plug in ahead. There is one game I strongly recommend playing if you have a PS2. For those of you who like RPGs or know someone who does, you can't go wrong with Disgaea 2. Wonderfully deep, additctive gameplay plus a twisted yet hilarious story (everything from perverted, cowardly talking frogs with French accents, penguins that explode when tossed, sarcasatic item descriptions, "dark heroes" whose idea of villany is doing ding-dong ditches and crank phone calls, to egotistical demon lords that get more angry about being called flat than with people opposing her plans) makes for an experience you shouldn't miss doods. It came out last summer so it should still be really easy to find as well. Plus, the voice acting is decent.
