Competition Central / Competition info about Sonic 06.
« on: November 16, 2006, 08:51:10 pm »
After checking a bunch of stuff out, here's what I've found. (Will add to this as I go.)
1. Every mission, action stage, and boss battle tracks your best time, score, and highest ring counts.
2. Sonic has 20 missions, Silver has 18 missions, and Shadow has 15.
3. For Sonic, the stages I've run into are Wave Ocean, Dusty Desert, White Acropolis, Crisis City, and Flame Core. So far, I've played White Acropolis for Shadow. For Silver, I've seen Crisis City, Tropical Jungle, Wave Ocean, Dusty Desert, White Acropolis, a train deopt stage (Radical Train?), and aquatic base.
4. The boss battles I've seen are Egg Cerberus (Sonic and Shadow), Silver (Sonic and I assume Shadow), Iblis Form 2 (Sonic), Iblis Form 1 (Silver), Sonic (Silver) and Shadow (Silver).

General Sonic / Next gen Sonic is out.
« on: November 13, 2006, 11:33:20 pm »
I just got a copy of the next gen Sonic game for the X-Box 360. Sonic has his bounce ball attack (need upgrade) and custom actions that can be changed at will during action stages by pressing the d-pad. Shadow has new chaos powers in addition to Chaos Spear and Chaos Blast. These powers are Chaos Snap (Offensive version of Chaos Control that can be chained up to five times) and Chaos Lance (more powerful version of Chaos Spear that shoots red bursts of energy. The new powers (and Chaos Blast) need your Chaos Boost gauge to be full to various levels. Level one allows Chaos Snap, level 2 allows Chaos Lance, and level 3 allows Chaos Blast. Note: Need upgrades to use Chaos Boost techniques. In addition to the main characters, Tails, Knuckles, Rouge, Omega, Amy, and Blaze.

Non-Sonic Site Discussion / The official TMMC discussion topic.
« on: October 15, 2006, 12:30:36 am »
Magnum raises a good point here. Let's have a debate on the pros and cons of a number of similar issues.

In this category fall the following:

* Team Blast Glitch
* Freeze-game-clock glitches
* Doublespeed Duration
* Going through walls (whether nonexistent, or by zipping)
* Others that don't come to mind right now (somebody help me out with these)

Now the reason these can be grouped into one category, is because they are all abuses of the game's programming, in different ways.

The one thing that distinguishes TSC from other competition sites, for mine, is that if the game allows you to do it, it's allowed. (I think this is a direct quote from SM? confirm/deny?) The one exception to this point in time has been Doublespeed Duration, and I imagine that is due to its stacking ability.

On issues like this, there is no middle ground. Either you can abuse it to your heart's content, or it's completely disallowed. As it stands, DD is disallowed, while TBG runs rampant. Personally, before we decide on whether the "point of no return" has been breached we need the views of sonicam and eredani. But until then I consider it to be in the same category of glitches as anything else that abuses a programming error, and therefore the same ruling should be applicable to all. If that means unbanning DD, so be it.
-I understand your arguement and agree that there should be no middle ground, but I feel like it didn't answer my question. Glitch A (permanent time freeze) is more powerful/abusive than glitch B (DD) yet glitch A is allowed but not glitch B. Why?
-At least this debate is giving me some advice on how to deal with issues with TMC when TSC4 is born. I'm planning on finding as many potential issues with games before establishing competitions as part of "sheathed sword" tactics refered to by sirlin's articles. The universal rule for all games will be no glitches are allowed as part of "sheathed sword" ways of preventing balance problems between versions (if any) and to insure no double standard complaints. This should not be a problem since MM games are relatively clean when it comes to bugs. Most of the rules will focus on banning of super exploitable things that are intentionally in the games, such as dark chips, forms with infinite Giga Attack/similar moves, fusion elves, etc. that sonicam, Psyborg, and myself all agreed would turn competitions into a joke. BTW, if you're there Psyborg, have you discovered anything that would be as abusive as Dark Chips in MMBN6 yet?

1. If anyone's interested, a SA version differences guide would be most interesting for the sake of completion since SA2 has a similar guide.
2. How do you quickly get the final hits for Chaos 0 and E101 MK2 in the GC version?

General Sonic / I call for a contest!
« on: June 16, 2006, 07:08:16 pm »
Since (for most of us anyway) summer break has most likely recently started, I propose that we have a little contest to occupy us now that school's done. I will also be taking part so we'll need 2-3 people to act as judges. Note: There is no prize, this contest is solely for fun.
-Basic Contest Concept: Create some concept ideas for an original Sonic game.
-Rules: 1. The concept must be a spin-off. (Makes the contest more challenging.)
2. The concepts must be submitted in a Microsoft Word format (or similar type of program) document.
3. Content must only warrent an E or E10 rating.
4. The deadline is August 1st.
-Scoring (Early ideas, judges can add more and create weights out of 100 points later if they desire): 1. Potential for being awesome: Does this concept have potential for an excellent game.
2. Boldness: Does the gameplay ideas dare to take the basic Sonic gameplay skeleton in brave new directions?
3. Interference: Does the gameplay ideas stray too far from classic Sonic roots. (Higher interference reduces the score.)

Leaderboard Disputes / Impossible boss time.

BreakTargets' 0:07:13 time on Robot Carnival (Sonic) may be BS. I don't even think its possible to destroy the second squad of enemies by that time.

Gaming and Grazing / What games from E3 are we most excited about?

The question is self-explanitory. For me, it would be the Sonic games, the new Smash Brothers, Super Paper Mario and Mega Man ZX.

Gaming and Grazing / The most dissapointing games you've ever played.
« on: April 16, 2006, 08:21:31 pm »
Here's an interesting question. What was the most disaspointing game you've ever played, and why? Keep in mind that even a good game can be a dissapointment.
For me, one of the most dissapointing games I've played in recent years was Tales of Legendia. After playing Tales of Symphonia, a game I'd consider one of the 5 best RPG's of this generation of games (along with KOTOR, Paper Mario, Never Winter Knights, and Dragon Quest 8), my expectations for this game were quite high. Needless to say, ToL fell short of those expectations. In its defense, its still a good game that introduced some good ideas, but it just didn't live up to the level of quality set by ToS.

Board Games / Horrible Misfortune Game
« on: March 03, 2006, 02:41:59 pm »
How this game works: I will post a phrase, but it will all be in question marks. Each poster that wants to play will post one letter. However, once that person has posted, they cannot post again until I update the game. Whoever gets the last letter of the message solves the puzzle. The person who posted before the winner gets to play a little "penalty game" involving the message posted. *Don't worry, its all in good fun and is for laughs.* Players can solve the message directly (based on what letters have been revealed) if they want to. If they get it right, they win the round. If they get it wrong, they will also take part in the end of round "penalty game" Think of this game as a twisted combination of Wheel of Fortune and Russian Roulette. Without any delays, let's get started with round 1.

??? ???????? ???? ???
-Good luck and most importantly, have lots of fun.

Gaming and Grazing / What games are we currently playing?
« on: February 14, 2006, 05:15:34 pm »
Since we're all gamers, it would be interesting to discuss what game's we're currently playing.
The games I've been playing during the past week:
1. Mega Man X Collection. Just got this last Friday. I've found MMX1-4 to be fun, but MMX6 is the bad egg of the collection, although Nightmare Zero is cool. I'm going through the process of finishing MMX1-3 to obtain the unlockable game.
2. Tales of Legendia. A good RPG in its own right, but it doesn't quite measure up to Tales of Symphonia.
3. Gun Star Super Heroes. I never owned a Sega system until 2001, so I was wasn't aware of the original Gun Star Heroes until long after it was released. Based on what I heard about the original, I made getting this game one of my top priorities when I had the time to do so. I highly recommend this for anyone who's a fan of action games and doesn't mind a good challenge.

General Sonic / My Sonic game idea
« on: January 27, 2006, 02:20:38 pm »
As some of you may know, in Ultra Sonic's welcome thread I posted a Sonic game idea. Here it is in much greater detail.
-Basic concept: A 2D spin off game staring Amy (I love a good challenge and coming up with an idea for a spin off based on this character is a challenge). In terms of basic gameplay, think of it as a hybrid of a Sonic game and a MMX or Z style game. Here's a link (look for the E3 Trailer) that shows the combat aspects of the hybrid.) http://www.gamespot.com/gba/action/megamanzero3/media.html (note, best video in terms of skill level I could find) Of course, the other characters in the series will be playable (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Cream, and Shadow) and they will have their own unique story line and a different set of stages. As you play the game and defeat enemies with the hammer, it will level up, allowing for new moves to be used. Note: the game will also take upon the intense challenge of the later series that's part of the hybrid.
-Moves gained by leveling up (max level cap is 1+farthest stage progressed to): Lv2: 2 hit combo (must stand still). Lv3: additional hit to combo. Lv4: Aerial Hammer Spin (up+attack in air. Lv5: Hammer assisted spin dash (more Area Of Effect and damage to spin dash. Lv6: Powerful anti air attack (up+attack on ground). Lv7: Bouce Ball (more AOE and damage than Sonic's version but a slight delay time before use and less bounce, down+attack in air) Lv8: Hammer Toss: (down+attack on ground, medium range technique but left completely defenseless during the move.
-Upgrades: Like SA2B, my idea would have upgrades that can be found in the stage (vital ones are always found just before the first required use of them and in stage paths will always merge together at this point to guarrantee that it can't be missed. Here's a list of the one's I've come up with. Crystal Ring (A): Enables Light Dash. (Sonic and Shadow already have this move.) Some sort of boot upgrade (A): Enables Triangle Jump (Sonic and Shadow already have this.) Flame Ring (Sonic): Upgrades Spin Dash to do more damage, leave lingering flames that damage enemies, and allows stuff to be burned for making shortcuts.
-Weapons: For Shadow's gameplay, I figured that it would be cool if he used weapons for this game. The system for taking them is like the Z Knuckle system. Each weapon has an attribute that determines if an enemy (bosses included) are strong or weak against it. These attributes are piercing (Egg Lances), bludgeon (punches or anything that damages by smashing), slashing (Black Blade), ballistics (M-160), fire (wrist mounted flamethrower), electric, explosive (rocket launcher, and this attribute is based on the force of the explosion, not the flames), and energy (most Black Arms stlye guns).
-Timeline: 3 years after the Black Arms invasion. (Gives logic to how Eggman has managed to scavenge some remnants of Black Arms weapons for use with his robots in addition to stolen GUN weaponry.)
-Health: For this idea I decided to take inspiration from SA2 and give characters a health gauge. Being damaged with no rings just means you take double damage instead of losing a life. This means that merely touching an enemy will only deal minor damage at worst while their weapons will be more dangerous.
-Grading: Grading will be based on several categories; time (weight depends on character), enemies destroyed (see time), rings (how many rings you have), lives lost, damage taken (based on % health remaining), and style (the amount of cool moves used i.e. aerial tricks, rail tricks, weapons stolen, multi hit combos, etc.
-Stage ideas (which characters get these stages is undecided): Steel Ocean. The interior of a large submarine. While it's depth is changing, the stage rotates (like the rotating room trap in Castlevania 4.) Smart players will be able to use these rotations for shortcuts. The end of this stage has a boss that must be defeated in a time limit (the character is riding a missile during this). Siren Illusion. An entire stage in which players must figure out what's real or fake (anything could be an illusion; rings, enemies, items, or even platforms) in order to not fall to their doom. Shining Void. A more cerebral stage in which players must manipulate both light and darkness in order to proceed. However, there's a twist, the enemies in this stage either become stronger or weaker depending on the lighting, so there's the risk of clearing the path at the expense of making enemies more powerful. Magma Inferno. A volcano stage in which the boss is after the first act and act 2 is the escape.
-Boss ideas (either an Eggman vehicle or a robot, which story gets the boss is not decided): Egg Tyrant: A hijacked GUN tank with tons of weaponry including missile packs, twin cannons, and a chain gun. Egg Wyrm: A large dragon like robot armed with fire breath, fangs, claws, and a powerful tail. Egg Phantom: A cloaked ghost like robot that uses illusions to bait players into making mistakes (feigns an attack to make players dodge in a way that makes them easy targets for the real attack). Egg Hunter: A robot that combines the worst aspects of a tarantula and a praying mantis. Transforms into a stalker mode (less combat but more agile) and a destroyer mode (reverse of this). Shadow Android Prime. (Name is prototype) A particulary powerful Shadow Android who uses weapons and can imitate Chaos Spear and Chaos Blast. Egg Golem Type X: A nigh indestructible golem like vehicle that must be defeated by manipulating a series of mirrors so that they refract its photon beam into its reactor at the back of the mech.
-Secrets: What Sonic game idea would be complete without ideas for unlockables. In this case, my idea for secrets are 2D remakes of some of the really cool stages from 3D Sonic games. (Ideas include Sonic's Final Egg, Pyramid Cave, Final Rush, and The Last Way.)

General Sonic / If other characters were to get solo games..
« on: September 30, 2005, 02:54:17 pm »
This thread is for discussion of ideas for any game in the Sonic series that has a character other than Sonic as the main star. (aka spin-off games). Essentially, if someone like Knuckles, Rouge, Espio, etc. were to get their own solo game, what would be the best way of going about it gameplay wise?

General Sonic / The new games in the Sonic Series
« on: August 11, 2005, 12:05:53 am »
This thread is for discussion our opinons of the three new Sonic games coming out this year. Here's mine.
1. Sonic Gem Collection: What will be obvious is that after this game, we can expect quite a few more players in the Sonic CD and Sonic R competition. To be honest, the only games I'm really looking foward to are Sonic CD and the two Vector Man games (would rather have the Streets of Rage games). I'm rather disapointed that Knuckle's Chaotix wasn't released. IMO, it would have been better to cut a few game gear games (already in SADX) to make room for KC. Regardless, I'm still going to buy this since CD alone is worth gettting this new compliation.
2. Sonic Rush: Really looking foward to this one. Unfortunately, that's all I can say about it since there isn't very much information about this game asides from what came out of E3.
3. Shadow the Hedgehog: I know people like to complain about the gun, but I think this game has some real potential. The weapons might even add a little strategy, depth, and intensity to the combat, something that IMO, felt a little weak in previous games. I just hope the game's challenge is considerably higher than the previous 3D Sonic games (which many of us can agree were not very difficult).

Gaming and Grazing / The unofficial video game accomplishment thread.
« on: July 13, 2005, 11:29:07 am »
Post your best gaming accomplishments here. However, they cannot be Sonic related because that would ruin the point of this site.
1. Castlevania Symphony of the Night: Defeated Dracula without using any weapons. (Currently working on a beat entire game without weapons run.)
2. Mega Man 1-4 and X: Defeated all robot masters without using special weapons.
3. Mega Man Zero 3: Defeated all 8 robot masters without taking damage during the fight. (I've also been working on a no damage run against the final boss but haven't been able to beat the final form with no damage.) I've also beat the game with an S rank.
4. Kingdom Hearts: Defeated Phantom, Ice Titan, Kurt Ziza, and Sephiroth.
5. FF7: Defeated all three optional weapon battles.

Gaming and Grazing / A new WC3 map I'm working on...
« on: December 10, 2004, 06:19:08 pm »
A while back, I posted a thread about a map for Warcraft III that I've been helping construct called Reign of Satire. This thread is about another project I've been constructing with the World Editor, one that I believe the rest of this community will like. This map, called Sonic Saga, is an action RPG hybrid that takes 4-6 players through an adbriged journey through Sonic 1-3, CD, and Adventure 1-2. I realize that mixing Sonic with Warcraft is like mixing oil and water, so I tried to put in as much of the fast paced gameplay as I could. The world editor can't do crazy roller coaster stuff so I'm making up for it with extremely intense, fast paced combat and bright, colorful visuals. The following zones are not represented due to lack of availible space in the map; Twinkle Park, Casinopolis, Sky Deck, Final Egg, Pumpkin Hill, Aquatic Mine, Route 101/its clone, and Sky Rail. The map has the following features:
1. Six playable characters from the start. (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, and Rouge)
2. Seven unlockable characters. (Can't spoil the surprise by telling who they are)
3. An unconventional experience system inspired by Chrono Cross.
4. Player versus player duels. (Last two segments of the game)
5. The ability to raise Chao. (Still haven't created hybrid species yet, but I have made combinations of running, power, and flying chao with hero, dark, or neutral alignments.) The end purpose of this mini game is the ability to have the Chao fight alongside your character. If their HP run out, they respawn in the garden, but the mana it takes to bring them to you is still spent.
6. A special reward for collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds.
7. The ability to advance as high as level 14 (as opposed to the default level 10 in a normal WC3 game.
8. The ability to upgrade your characters as if they were non hero units.
9. A time attack system (inspired by TSC, remind me to put this place in the credits and place an advertisement to join) where if you clear the stage within a posted time limit, you get an A rank in that stage and get a reward that activates when you enter the next stage.
10. Unlockable EX skills (inspired by Mega Man Zero 3) that are obtained as a reward for clearing a stage with the ring that was given to all characters at the start of the game. One of these abilites is Chaos Burst.
The current version in progress is version 1.05. As of now, it is in the final beta stages (for bugs and balance problems). The finished version will require the 1.17 patch to play. I'm currently aiming for a Mega Man Zero 3 difficulty setting that will require excellent team work skills in order to win at this map. An earlier version can be found at warcraftiii.net but it is an inferior version that still has some bugs that were ironed out in the new version. Hopefully, it should be fully playable for anyone that has WC3 and is interested by January 2005. :)

Information Kiosk / A Team Chaotix extra mission score attack.
« on: October 22, 2004, 01:37:15 pm »
I think a score attack for Team Chaotix extra missions should be added for completion purposes except stages 3, 9, and 13 since those objectives are similar to Team Sonic extra missions which are redundant in regards to competition.

Gaming and Grazing / Reign of Satire
« on: October 01, 2004, 12:35:27 pm »
I'd like to announce that a beta version of a project I've been working on (as a concept designer, idea maker, and when needed suggesting methods of executing planned ideas via triggers and use of the game's spells) with about 10-15 people for about a year will be released within 48 hours. During the process, I came up with the name by which the team calls themselves which is Satire Team. Note: Once the beta testing is finished (which should take a month), the full version will be released to the public. The project in question is a Warcraft III map called Reign of Satire. RoS is a capture the flag style game that is a parody of Warcraft and its online community (although some of the themes in the map can be extended to other online places as well). The finished version will feature over 20 heroes such as:
1. Troll Lord, an evil user that enters forums and spreads chaos. Can use spells such as Uber Flame, Spam Topic, Mass Frosties=Instant Win, and other spells.
2. Star Craft Fanboy, a utter devotie to Starcraft who goes around claiming that Wc3 is the suxxor. Can use spells such as Cloak, Feed Back, Broodling, Stim Pack, and Nuclear Launch.
3. Cheese Master, a parody of the Beast Master abuse that infested pre 1.13 WC3 days. (Don't have any spell info since this hero is being reworked thus not availible in the beta)
4. Hack Master. A pathetic player that wins his games by cheating. Can use spells such as Map Hack, Lag Hack, Disconnect Hack, CD Key Generator, and Name Spoof.
5. Balance Guru (Used to be Patch Master). A Blizzard Employee that's dedicated to his version of balance. Don't get him mad or he might nerf you. Can use spells such as Over Power, Under Power, Update Rain, and Uber Nerf.
6. Newb Warrior. A naive player whos stupidity incites the flames of people arround him. Can use spells such as Incite Flames, Abusive Armor, Rely on Allies, Negative APM, and Strength and Honor.
I'll have more information later if anyone's interested.
