Repeating town missions in Sonic Next-gen (Free Roam)

I was just made aware via YouTube that it is possible to repeat town missions and get infinite ring and score totals.  I'm still doing some testing, but you need to get into "free roam" before and after finishing a town mission and... well, the vid explains the rest.

I think a rule should be added to make sure brokenness doesn't occur on the charts.

edit: I found out that this does not work on all missions, most notably Shadow's town missions you do in the city.  However, it's still broken.
edit2: It turns out DsS was aware of this back when the video was uploaded, but he did nothing about it.
edit3: Now about freeroam in general.

I vote "Aye" to banning this glitch. The real question here is how much this exploit has infested competition.

I don't think Paraxade or PsyBorg knew about this, plus DsS knew about it but didn't bother with it (he said he saw it as "just another glitch").  Not sure about blueblazer_8 or Kirby54 (probably not, but can't be too sure).

I never knew about this glitch and also want to ban this glitch because of its huge cheapness and its effect on the charts.

White Acropolis infinite stats were banned, so this should probably be banned as well.

I knew about the free roam bit, but not the infinite score/rings. Wasn't used for any of my stats.

Okay, so the rule I was thinking of is something like this for Ring Divisions and Score Divisions:  "In town missions, you may not complete the same mission more than once in a run."

Good wording. As a side note for our site rules, we should have an appendix that explains the various banned tricks, how they work, and why they are banned so that new competitors can better understand the rules and the reason they're there.

I'd rather see the whole free roam thing banned... just seems really cheap that you can get extra points while the timer's not running and the game doesn't even think you're doing the mission.

If the game not thinking you're doing the mission means you don't go back to the menu where your new record is registered, it doesn't count.

Issue has been brought back up in Leaderboard Disputes, so time to revive this topic.

Is ANYTHING going to be done about Free Roam?  What, do the mods just ignore anything Sonic06 just because it sucks?

I felt that I should post something in here since it was me who brought it back up in Leaderboard Disputes. I too vote yes for banning this glitch. Reading back on this topic I completely agree with the following people: magnum12, blueblazer_8 and Paraxade.

I don't know if this will make sense to people so I'll say it anyway, but it just doesn't feel like competing when you're doing it that way.

It was brought up in one of the rules committee meetings, but I don't think they ever came to a conclusion. (What happened to that, anyway? There hasn't been a meeting in months.)

also iirc RPG mentioned using scalping for his WA-Sonic record score.

Several things need to be added rule-wise for Sonic06.

-Banning or limiting of Free Roam
-If above is limited, ban on completing a mission objective more than once
-Limiting the number of times you can pass through a trick ring to once per trick ring

First off, you need to activate all 3 switches so the train can safely make it to the end of the first part of the level.  Then you need to return to the beginning of the level using the purple gem to proceed past the dead-ends.  When you reach the very beginning, the camera will change to a bad angle, so use the purple gem to move the camera to behind Sonic.  Hit the proper dash pad holding the Right Trigger and the camera will be permanently stuck unless the purple gem is being used.  When you go through the trick rings, the camera resets to its "stuck" location, but you still get the points for the trick ring you went through.  I don't quite understand exactly why the trick ring doesn't disappear, but maybe it has to do with the camera resetting to a place where the ring is outside of the draw distance before it has a chance to vanish.

Basically, you can keep going through the ring over and over again for point scalping.

Free roam sounds like something potentially useful for other things, so I'd vote for banning completing a mission more than once.  Having said that I don't play this game so take that how you will.

Number 1 answers your number 2.

The purple gem makes Sonic smaller.  No idea exactly what the original intention was, but with it, you can perform infinite midair jumps.

Okay, seriously, can this just be resolved? Rule committee just meet once or something to discuss it, but so far nothing's happening. (surely this isn't the only thing that needs discussing)

The moving/removal of the 360-exclusive DLC too.

I think the rules committee is a bust or rather the rules in general.  We need a change in hierarchy or something as to people in charge don't have enough time to spend here...
