With a fair few Aussies on TSC now and round 1 of the AFL season just a week away, Mike suggested we run a tipping comp. Not a bad idea at all.

So here is how it's going to work, anyone following the season who wants to take part can just whack their round 1 tips in here between now and Thursday 26th March at 7:40pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time (that's GMT +11 for those residing overseas) and I'll add your name to the leaderboard.

RULES
Simple enough, there are 8 matches played per round and one round per week; pick the side that you think will win each match in the current round and highlight your selections in bold like so:

Sydney vs Geelong
St. Kilda vs West Coast
Melbourne vs Fremantle

and so on...

For the game each week involving the team you support, you pick the winning margin as well as the result. For instance, I support the Adelaide Crows who are playing against Collingwood in round 1. So my tip for this match could be as follows:

Collingwood vs Adelaide (19 points)

Remember you can only nominate one team to support and hence predict winning margins for/against, and you stick to this team for the season.

SCORING
For each standard correct prediction you are awarded 1 point. If you are lucky/astute enough to tip the closest-to-correct winning margin for your team's game, you will gain 1 bonus point to go with the 1 standard point for picking the result. Successfully picking the exact margin will result in 4 bonus points. At the end of the season (consisting of 22 rounds) the user with the most total points wins the competition for 2009. In the event of a tie between 2 or more users, the difference between their predicted winning margins and the actual margins for the year would be tallied, and he/she with the lowest tally in this case would be crowned the winner. In the very unlikely event that two or more users were still tied, the remaining competitors would be deployed to the Atlantic Ocean to hunt and club as many seals as possible in the alotted time. No wait that's illegal. We'd just leave it as a tie ;)

IMPORTANT: YOU MUST SUBMIT ALL OF YOUR TIPS FOR A PARTICULAR ROUND BEFORE THE FIRST BALL IS BOUNCED THAT WEEK. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A ZERO SCORE FOR THE ROUND.

Note: A random on the interwebs has said he would upload replays of games played by the Adelaide Crows each week on youtube, but unfortunately the AFL clamped down and had his account removed. Hoping to organise a better setup for next season (or even later this year).

Yeah I have no idea about anything, so here goes nothing! Also werster says I should not support the Crows, and I said I don't have any other reason to support a team, he says I should go neutral. SO MY NEUTRALITY WILL PWN YOU ALL.

Lol...Werster is still hurting because it was the Crows that came back in the last quarter of the preliminary final in 1997 to win by two points, knocking his Western Bulldogs out of the finals and putting the Crows into the Grand Final. Their supporters have hated us ever since.

Talk yourself up andy, you know it's all you've got, no real players to back up your cinfidence, just faded memories. But the real reason i didn't want flyby with the Crows is I don't think anyone should have a second support behind them <_<

Those who were in attendance at the MCG today witnessed the beginning of a career that will become one of the most decorated in Adelaide's history. Taylor Walker slotted this today from the boundary, the first of MANY goals to come from a player Neil Craig describes as the sort that, as a coach, you go to bed and dream about.

As someone who has seen almost every one of his games at SANFL level, I can vouch for the fact that he's the most gifted forward to come through said league at least since Matthew Pavlich, in fact most pundits here would go further back than that to find someone of comparable talent. He only played a few minutes each quarter today which is to be expected as the club tries to manage his introduction to the big league. Make no mistake though, the young people at the MCG today will be telling their grandkids about the day they saw Taylor Walker kick his first goal.
