since scores must be obtained with out deaths you'd have to subtract all the points obtained on a previous life.

^ right, but if the rule was removed, then the ONLY thing I'd have to subtract is the points, whereas I'd still have the rings from the previous life, even if I died (Knux S2 ring mechanics ftw)

Common sense applies in all games. If something seems iffy, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

So then that means:

No rings may be carried over between lives. :/
